I recently bought a sega genesis stick like the one in this auction > link

now... I want to get this to work with cps2 as well as neogeo. As this has the 6 buttons in the middle, and the rapid fire slider, I'd like to be able to set an auto-fire switch, and possibly use some of the other switches to change between button layouts (ie a cps2 layout, a two button neo layout, and a fuor button layout).
I'd like to link the rapid fire with the slider, to have a variable speed rapid fire if possible. to be honest, I'm not sure how I could go about doing this mod except for soldering to the chip on the pcb inside the controller(as it's pretty much the only place where there is exposed contact area... and the fact that there are basically 19 buttons (including switches and directions) and a slider while there are only 9 pins in the connector. any advice would be appreciated, Thanks.

I doubt you can use the rapid fire. The genesis stick, as any other controller for most regular consoles, has a chip inside that codifies and compresses the data sent to the console (that's why there's so few wires). You need to bypass that chip in order to make it work in a supergun.
By the way, it is also possible that the regular buttons don't work at all in a supergun, as they are not microswitches, and some times the rubber pads it uses instead don't give a contact clean enough for the arcade board to register it.

Yes, you should be able to do that, but you would need to build a circuit yourself for autofire as I doubt you can use the one already made. That's what I meant.

And still it is possible that the buttons presses just don't get registered by arcade boards, it has happened to me in some similar controllers or sticks I tried to mod. Of course some others have worked, so just try it.

Saturn pads are perfect for capcom games. Most people just hack their saturn pads up to work with their setup but I manage to dig up a schematic for them and I am very soon planing on demultiplexing them to work on my super gun without having to hack them up.

About your genesis stick you have no choice but to hack them to get them to work. What most do not know is all 6 button sega pad/stick where reversed engineered to work with the genesis. If you demultiplex the controller only the A,B,C buttons would function. The X,Y,Z button are reconized by the genesis only through special firmware and not hardware that was incorporated into games such as street fighter 2

Another option is to use the genesis 6 button pads. They are normally cheaper and easier to get in local shops then saturn controllers. They are almost as good as a saturn controller. I have a hacked 3rd party genesis six button pad and it works fine for both neo geo game and others.

I agree with this.

The 6 button genesis pad works well with my supergun.
