So I just went to play my copy of Geist, and the system acts like it's constantly registering a right directional input from the controller. I tried switching the power off to my Wavebird, took the batteries out and put them back in, switched over to a regular corded controller, checked all AV and the PSU connections, and nothing worked. It even registers the right directional when there's no controller plugged in.

Anyone else ever had that problem? Does it sound like an easy fix, or should I just eat $100 and buy a new Gamecube? I really don't want to have to drop the money for a new 'cube right now, but I want to be able to play that and Killer 7, and I haven't finished RE4 yet...

edit: here's an interesting homebrew cure for above-stated problem: clean controller connects with q-tip (which makes no sense since it was fucked up even with no controllers plugged in), and then bang the console sideways against the shelf it sits on. That's what I did just now (figuring I didn't have much to lose), and now it seems to be okay.

Nevermind, I guess.

I have an extra controller port/memory card slot thing board (you know, the piece that it all plugs into) if the problem resurfaces. Free.

That's awesome, I was just going to tell him to buy a broken gamecube and take the controller daughterboard off of there! You can't beat free!

How exactly would it be free if he had to buy the broken GC?

Offer is greatly appeciated! :D I'll play Geist some more tonight to make sure it's working right for good.

Thanks either way, Eddie!

I get a similar problem when my (wired) joystick being held in a direction when the system is being turned on. Works fine when I turn the system off and on again (with the joystick left untouched).

I think this is normal.

Even if it happens again, I'm sure it's an easy fix as it can pretty much only be a short between the right and a ground. All you'd need to do is find where the short is occurring, and make it so that it doesn't short anymore. I don't personally have a gc... is there a corner of sheet metal right on top of the controller board?

it is indeed normal it did it on the n64 too

if you hold a direction while booting it'll calibrate that as the center point

L+R + B + START or a reboot centers it.

:)
