Mono Speaker Connection

I'm sure there is an answer to this somewhere in the forum, but I couldn't find it.
I searched as many of the threads as I could, based on their titles, but most of the answers I found were for running JAMMA boards on MVS wiring.

I've got the opposite problem.
I've got an early model Jaleco Pony (MK2, I think) that has a JAMMA harness, and single speaker setup.
I just picked up a 4-slot MVS board, and need to know how to wire the stereo out from the MVS board to work properly with the mono on the harness.

Most of the answers I found were "add a speaker", or "separate the two that are already there, but wired in mono".
Neither of these is a good solution to my situation in that the cab is all steel, and has a single speaker in the middle of it.
I don't trust my metal working skills enough to cut a decent looking hole in the thing, and I wouldn't get very good stereo if I did, given that the speakers would only be about 3" apart.

Is there a way to get the stereo out to balance itself on a single speaker?
I'm having the standard "music is louder than the sound effects" problem.
I've got spare fingerboards, and edge connectors, to make a cross-over converter, but haven't been able to find a good "wire this pin to there" diagram to know where to cross them over--or even if it is possible to do that.

Also, can anyone confirm that it is bad to run an MVS board hooked to a standard JAMMA harness for any length of time?
