I just finished re-doing our entire online store. Here is
a direct link to purchase FF for the neo:

FROG FEAST (NEO-GEO CD) : ORDER PAGE

Although the screenshots can't do it much justice, I'm sure there
are a few peeps around here who got to see it at CGE and would
tell you that for what it is and what the game is about that
Frog Feast is a pretty good game! :glee:

Hello guys,

I just wanted to let you know that for those of you that may
be attending CGE this year we are publishing a new commercial
homebrew NGCD game called "FROG FEAST" in association with
Charles Doty.

I feel that NEO homebrew has been neglected for a long time
and will do whatever I can to support his and other projects
because I feel that with quality homebrews these systems
can and will live on beyond SNKP's release calendars.

This is not official but it does show the effort of someone who
truly enjoys making great games that are simple yet fun.

This is also not the next KOF and should be rated on it's
merit as a quality homebrew and not like a game which was
done by an army of programmers and/or artists.

I believe that if the community wants a new game with
a decent replay value that is made with having fun in
mind but still remains a smiple yet addictive game then
"FROG FEAST" is definately for you!

I believe that by supporting Mr. Doty's and others
work in this area that this will eventually lead
to future homebrew support for the NEO community! :buttrock:

What sort of game is it?

I guess you can best describe it as a suped-up frog bog clone.
There is a one and two player version where you try to catch as
many flies as you can to beat the other frogs score in a limited
amount of time.

In the 2-player mode it's a lot of fun because you can snag
the flies from the other player just before they get to them
and really have a blast.

can't say I'm too pumped about this game. But I do like the idea of people making home-brew games for the Neo-Geo. Keep up the good work. Maybe next time do a puzzle game or possibly a platformer.

Honestly Stephane I can see what you are saying. Keep in mind
I said "early" version. The version we have has solid AI, 2 player
head-to-head ability, different color frog sprites, music and sound,
full control and even changing backgrounds during realtime play.

To base this release on a very early alpha demo would be like
basing any full fledged release on an alpha demo of it. To compare
this to a high-end production like a lot of the neo games is also
unfair as it was done as a side project by someone who just
wanted to make a good game that people would enjoy with
no funding going into it at all.

I do believe that as a homebrew this game stands on it's
own. It certainly shows more spirit than :cough: diggerman.

You are entitled to your own opinion but please remember
that Charles may be reading this and those kinds of
comments can affect someone after the amount of work
he did. :)

Those were exactly my thoughts entirely. :mr_t:

If someone is going to make a neo game, make it good, we expect
a lot, specially working on this OLD but great 2D hardware.

FAKE SHIT.

If it was something like Castlevania, like Barfhappy was making, then
yeah, I would be interested. But this game screams of fake shit, it
doesn't look like an actual game, it's more like a mini game you can find in DK64.

I love how people who can't (or won't) put together a homebrew game could just walk in here and give such condemning comments. Fine... you looked at screenshots and determined that the game is not for you. But chill out with the nasty ass commentary! It's not like you're doing something about it. Seems like the "133test" attitudes of Neo Geo gamers continues to shine through, even when they don't realize it. :oh_no:

I don't have a Neo CD, and if I saw it I probably would pass on it. If I had a chance to play it and found it a lot of fun, that could change my tune. Regardless, it's good to see someone trying to make games for the Neo CD system. Anything else to look forward to?

Outstanding, how do I bag myself a copy? I'm not in the States.

Homebrew is always a step into the right direction; you can only improve as a programmer as you go along. Looking at the earlier Neo Geo games, and what they have achieved since then is a testament to that fact.

As an alpha that actually looks quite good. Can't wait to see more from Charles and yourself.

(Would be very nice to see some cooperative work from the other people in the know, e.g. Razoola, Jeff Kurtz, etc. And chance of that happening? ;) Would love to contribute in anyway I can, possibly in drawing layers pixel-by-pixel and maybe some crude assembly)

Homebrew Games

Gentlemen,

Homebrew games may not be for everyone but they do add to the gaming scene in their own way. In regards to this particular title, I personally don't have a NEO-CD system but I am very familiar with the Frog Bog (Intellivision) / Frogs & Flies (Atari 2600) game upon which it is based. It is actually a fun 2 player game which is enjoyable every once in a while. The Atari graphics have been greatly enhanced for this NEO-GEO-CD version and it looks pretty good.

While this and other homebrew games may not appeal to some of us, it is great to see that work is being done on them. You can trust me on one thing, they only get better over time. Some of the Colecovision homebrew games that are hitting that scene are amazing. Opcode has made a Yier Kung Fu which is dead on. And their soon to be released Pac Man collection cartridge is probably THE best homebrew effort I have ever seen for any system to date! Also Spectar is soon to be released for Colecovision from another homebrew programmer, a game which was originally announced as a first gen title but never saw release.

If this frog game sells even just decently at the show, it may inspire the programmer to make another game. It may also inspire other programmers to make games as well. The games will eventually get better and appeal to more people. But all of this takes time and encouragement from the system fans. If you like it and you want to help the cause, buy it. And if you don't like it, just don't buy it and leave it at that. Insulting the game or the programmer achieves nothing!

Just my thoughts.
Regards,
Billy Pitt

Damn Pitt... you are spot on and I thank you for
such a supportive attitude. :buttrock:

For the other guy: It will be available after CGE on our
website at: http://www.oldergames.com/

For everyone else: Chill! If you don't like it don't buy it.
If you give it a chance you might actually be surprised
with what Mr. Doty's achieved in this game. Please
stop throwing fireballs on this thread - we have
enough drama here already. :D
