What was your error message number? You never said, and that link you gave had all of them on it!

Is this a factory Xbox or a modded system?

If it's factory you can probably do some work and get it to flash the BIOS and the use a new hard drive to use it as a Xbox Media Center system.

Of course at this point it might be better to wait 3 months and get an Xbox 360 instead of shelling out $150 for a new Xbox.

Well,

It can be fixed, you will need a few things to make it work though:

a new 8 - 10 gb hd or larger one if you prefer - http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list

a modchip - I use xenium ice, it has great hd utilities included

xboxhdm v1.9 - www.xbox-scene.com

blank cd-r & a burning program - I use the latest Nero

evolution x dashboard

The modchip will generate the appropriate eeprom to lock the hd on the fly. You can use xboxhdm to rebuild a lockable hd and make it a stock xbox hd. Install evox to backup the eeprom and then use xboxhdm again to lock the hd to the appropriate eeprom and you can take out the modchip. I've had to do it a few times and it is time consuming but doable if you stick with it. If it is a stock xbox then you can send it in for repairs, most likely they'll give you a refurbished xbox instead of fixing yours? I could be wrong, never had to deal with m$ before? I think I may be missing a step or two, but if I remeber it I'll post it laters..

Try to find someone in your area who mods xbox's? If they charge you more than $20 then your getting ripped off. Laters... :smirk:

More than $20 is a rip off to install a chip? Soldered? Including chip? HD setup? HD included? If so, everyone send their systems to Seawolf. At that price I may subcontract out to him.

Sending it to MS will cost you, and I gaurantee they will NOT fix it, but they will charge you.

To replace or restore that HDD, a mod will be necessary, but not necessarily permanent. Depends on what you want.

May as well get it modded at this point. If you can't find someone you trust local, check my sig. OSG has repaired more than 600 Xboxes.

I hear I can get it fixed without using a mod chip, if I replace the HD and motherboard together?

What mobo do you have single row PSU connector or double like on a PC?

There are 2 different types of "double like on a PC" PSU's, and they are NOT interchangeable.

1.2-1.5
1.6a, 1.6b, 1.7
