Well,
It can be fixed, you will need a few things to make it work though:
a new 8 - 10 gb hd or larger one if you prefer -
http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list
a modchip - I use xenium ice, it has great hd utilities included
xboxhdm v1.9 -
www.xbox-scene.com
blank cd-r & a burning program - I use the latest Nero
evolution x dashboard
The modchip will generate the appropriate eeprom to lock the hd on the fly. You can use xboxhdm to rebuild a lockable hd and make it a stock xbox hd. Install evox to backup the eeprom and then use xboxhdm again to lock the hd to the appropriate eeprom and you can take out the modchip. I've had to do it a few times and it is time consuming but doable if you stick with it. If it is a stock xbox then you can send it in for repairs, most likely they'll give you a refurbished xbox instead of fixing yours? I could be wrong, never had to deal with m$ before? I think I may be missing a step or two, but if I remeber it I'll post it laters..
Try to find someone in your area who mods xbox's? If they charge you more than $20 then your getting ripped off. Laters...
