Converting/Modding AES consoles. Any "classic" FAQs? Any FAQs at all?

I'm interested in expanding my knowledge of the workings of the AES console mainly because of personal interest but partly so that I might have a go at modding a damaged one I have.

Are there any FAQs about such things? I find it's a tough job trying to find a nice big all encompassing FAQ detailing aspects of the hardware and procedures for modding. Is there, for instance, a guide that explains how to put a power LED in the reset button (as you may have seen some people do) or enhance the video output of a machine? Can one mod an AES to output component video?

Also, has anyone ever constructed an MVS (1-slot) and placed it within an AES case? Perhaps it would be simpler to use a working AES and somehow replace the cartridge port (would that even be possible?).

These things interest me and I find it hard to believe there aren't extensive resources on such matters. I just have had no luck finding them.

Browsing through the collections I saw this cool thing:

Presumably that is a consolised MVS. It's so ridiculously cool IMO, does anyone know where I could get more info on it?

Thanks very much!!

The standard mods (Svideo, stereo, LED) are pretty well documented on this site in the Neostore -- just look in the accessories section for the mega mod kit and you will see the instructions online that explain how to do all these mods.

The component mod requires a circuit board (not as simply as hooking up a couple wires like the other mods), so unless you can produce your own PCB, your best bet is to get an RGB to Component board, which I happen to make and sell ;)

As for consolizing MVS systems. Information is slowly being gathered. With all the variety of MVS systems out there, it would be rather complicated to make an all-in-one FAQ that would cover everything that a noob would need. However, with a littke know-how, someone could use a tutorial and adapt it to their own need. A member named D-Lite on these forums has started a site which he is outlining his Supergun / Consolizing mods and techniques. I don't have his link handy, but the last time I looked, it was shaping up to be an interesting site. I'm sure he can chime in an post a link.

All in all, some of the technical mods on the Neo are not for beginners. Be very careful of what you attempt as it's easy to damage a Neo, and with systems costing over $200, it could be a costly mistake. But if you've used a soldering iron before and you're not afraid of tearing your Neo apart, have a go! The people on these tech forums are very knowledgable and will help you as much as possible...

Thanks, that's just the sort of thing I was after.

Ah cool. How do you (as in you literally, not "one") make the PCBs? Do you have a special machine to do it? If/when I (eventually) get to doing a component mod I will get one of your PCBs!

Brill, thanks. I do have experience of soldering but nothing as fiddly as a modding a console. I'll probably do some other simpler projects to get my confidence and experience up before tackling the Neo Geo console mods. In the meantime I will read read read so I know as much as possible.

Thanks for your response Mr. Kurtz!
