I couldn't find any specific info on bootleg Twinkle Star Sprites carts. I picked a cart only copy up off eBay from Yaton a week or so ago for $72. It arrived today. The case is obviously 3rd party, not even remotely like a legit MVS case, and the label (as I knew) was also homemade. When I opened up the cart, both boards are labeled SNK, but the 2nd board had two windowed EPROMs on it. The boards themselves LOOK like legit SNK, but I can't seem to find any images of TSS boards. I can take some pics if there's any interest. I personally don't care if it's a boot or not...the game is so damned hard to find and I got it for a good price...and it works flawlessly. I'm just kind of curious whether it's legit boards in a boot case, or if the whole thing is a boot.

You should be fine. I have bought over 40 carts from Yaton, and no boots yet! I think he has had the cases made for games he had without ones. If it one of those generic blue ones? Anyway, I wouldn't worry at all. Yaton is awesome.

I've also bought 20 or so games off Yaton. Blazing star and League Bowling both have those strange blue MVS cases. However, after opening both games up, both boards are real.

Best way is to post pics so people can verify it for you.

That's kind of what I'd thought, but it's nice to know for sure! Hey, I only paid $72 for a working TSS, so I'm not complaining. It did say "100% original" in the auction tho.... ah well!

I think it is fake, I sold a KOF96 some time back, it has MX chip too and the buyer and some other NGer told me it is fake!

might be worth it to see if he has a legit one, since I know he deals in huge volume, he probably has some other TSSs, maybe he could swap one out for you.

If you write Yaton, he will let you exhange/return it. He is very reasonable and will not sell boots if he knows about it. The problem is he sells hundres of carts ever month and cannot possibly check them all. If you are not satisfied, write him and he will fix things for you. He is a good seller and has always been truthful and helpful with me. I would not hesitate to buy from him.

I thought that sometimes when SNK made some last minute changes to games they did use flash chips. I'm no expert though.

btw, I've bought about 5-10 games from Yaton6262, and have had no problems. Some carts are a little beat up, and my Magic Drop 3 has a fake english label, but every cart I've purchased from him so far has been legit. He sells Neo games for great prices as long as you just like to play the games (like me).

They used EPROM chips for this, not flash chips.

cheers,
