I didn't kill 75% of the zombies that crossed my path. I figured if I killed one, they will come back to life in 30 minutes, become stronger and faster than before.

So basically, I only killed creatures that was a must, like bosses.

Once you kill a zombie - set fire to it.

It wont come back as a red zombie
