Hi. I'm making some adapters for another member on the forum, and one of the boards he gave me to make an adapter for was wonderboy. I'm almost 100% sure that it's a bootlegged version, but I'd like to be sure, so I can confirm to the other member that it is in fact a boot (I figure people should know... even if it's not something they want to know). Here's some pics.
Picture66.jpg

-note that there are no trademark stamps or anything designating the pcb itself as a sega product.
-also note that the only branding on the pcb itself is "OAK", which can only be seen when holding the pcb up to a light source (it's inside the pcb layers)
Picture67.jpg

-note the obvious flux residue
Picture68.jpg

-note I wouldn't expect sega to have anything like that going on (but it could be a repair of some sort)
Picture69.jpg

This is pretty much a dead giveaway to me... I've never seen this sort of wiring done... on anything.
Picture70.jpg

more suspicious "fixes"... and a VERY poorly done solder joint at the capacitor (it's broken... what a surprise  )
Picture71.jpg

VERY sloppy soldering... that would shurelly be caught by sega's quality control department.
Picture72.jpg

and last picture that I think I'll take (but not the last of the suspicious wiring), cutoff socket pins instead of sockets of the correct size.

As I said before... I'm almost 100% that this is a boot, but I'd like to be absolutelly sure before I tell the guy that it is a boot. Thanks.

Looks like a boot to me, but I wouldn't call myself an expert. There's too many wires and caps soldered on, and of course also the eeproms are suspicious. That little daughterboard looks tacked on too. A lot of trouble for a repair, don't you think? That board really looks like shit!

ok... his wonderboy looks different than any of the four wonderboy pcbs on crazykong (note dip switch placement, and gynormous capacitor right off the edge connector) I'll tell him what I think, unless anyone can confirm that this isn't a boot. Thanks to the people who contributed.

Do not see any eeproms there (they are not used in this type of circuitry, maybe confusion with eproms?), but at least one pal and a bunch of eproms, which can be quite normal on the most ridgy didge of boardsets, it is not an indication of a bootleg- having said that, this boardset does look like a bootleg.
