Why is Merc able to adopt a new account?

When the established answer for the rest of us has been "too bad"(even though several of us did get name changes under the "old rules") since the whole squareh4t3r/MacGuiffen incident?

I thought that established a rather firm precedent and members could no longer ditch their established accounts or change their nicknames.

I mean when other people have established second accounts since then they've had the mods come down on them pretty hard (temp bans) since the SquareHater incident. I mean especially considering how harshly he was dealt with.

A little consistancy please?

Iirc, squareh4t3r's case was a rename, while Grizzly King is a brand new account. He doesn't get his post count or feedback history like quarterh4t3r (temporarily) did.

I'm just trying to see if there is an actual consistant policy in place when modding the forums or the justification for alliowing someone to sidestep such a rule?

But yeah, whats up with the account changing? Is it okay to make a new account so long as the other is deleted (so you only have one account at a time) or what?

I'm honestly just a little confused.

Of course, i'd accept the answer that Merc was allowed a new account because he is a total badass.

Asking to have your account deleted and starting a new one from scratch has always been allowed and several people has done it. What you are not allowed is to keep and use two accounts at the same time, and only in special cases you can have your username changed.
Actually Merc already did this at least once with his old account Megadrive 20XX.

Is that a joke? I wasn't harshly dealt with at all. It was simply decided that name changes weren't allowed, and that was that. I went back to the same sQuareh4t3r that you all know and love.

Were you under the assumption I was banned temporarily or something for the confusion? Or was that a totally sarcastic comment that flew right by me?

From what the referees have decided, emphasized post squareh4ter, is that we're not permitting any name changes save for extreme circumstances (like the whole PinkPeach thing). Any new accounts ("Wes"/"Grizzly King") are new accounts by members who have abandoned their old ones (cf. members who create accounts for spamming).

I have a feeling one of the mods may end up creating a sticky-post explaining this better.

and before that he was stormrider 20XX he's changed his name too many times and should not be allowed to make new ones. i give him like 6 months until he makes another.
