Its lame people need to re register. No joke. As much as I feel angst towards wes lately, he made a good point in saying his feedback wasnt carried to his new account. Perhaps you could have some rule where you submit a petition or some other weird shit? I actually would appreciate my name being shortened to just LWK, or GOD OF COCK. Or something thats at least shorter then what I have. I'll probably get pwned with some shitty nick name for asking, but no joke. Just make it so there needs to be a good reason. Deals is a good reason, a long ass name is a good reason etc. Set some form of ground rules so we wont see new nicks every two minutes.

I agree cause I'd love to wack the "special" off the end of my name.

It seems like there are too many members abusing double accounts etc.
Oh well.

Seriously, what's the point?

Is it THAT important to have a 'cool' nick? Sure, we could shorten your name to LWK, but what difference would it make? You'd get a screen name by which anyone addresses you already, so I really see no need for a change.

Yeah, references/records don't get copied into a new account, at least not by default. Why? Ask ebay, amazon, whatever online service you want, it's always the same - new account = old records deleted. It's the most basic protection of internet personality/screen name abuse there is, and IMO we would open a monstrous can of worms by allowing free name changes or even name changes after petitions/polls.

Its really not a biggie, just a small change would be nice. Its more of a inconveinance to have to re-register and start fresh then to just flat out ask for a change.

I've seen the word LORD in my name for christ knows how long, its a long name, just makes my already annoying presence even worse. Its not a requirement, but it would be cool. I dont think it would be a big deal. Its been made out to be. Nobody is gonna hijack someones account and actually get away with it. Pointless if they tried, cause things would be repaired very quickly.

Thats the thing to also: Ebay is full of stupid policy, why follow there lead? I mean shit, I think its mad unfair to have to say "Oh im a seller/dealer you can vouch for" meaning explaining shit, rather then a 20 second name change to save all that hell.

If it makes me personally happy, sure its important. Anyone could answer that honestly. Its not gonna seriously inconveinance anyone and if people wanted a name change on my forum (which is dead btw) then I'd gladly change it.

Shorter nicks are cool, its nice to see something different. I'm not gonna start a war with the mods over this, just feel it would benefit others. Like Jake Special for example, he probably chose that nick not thinking he would be a long time member. Hell, half of us did this, but we started to take a liking to the site.

You can change your name on ebay and keep your feedback.

I lost my feedback here since my account got merged, but I don't really care. Most people know I'm a good seller.

This is just getting ridiculous now. Fuck, all I want is my trader rating. You can have my post count sit on 0 for all I care. When I went to do some selling/trading this past week it was a pain in the ass to explain to everybody why I left my SonGohan nick, and that I was indeed a reputable seller and had established myself here, etc. If merging the accounts is that big of a deal, then does anybody have a problem if I use my old SonGohan account just to sell? Of course having two accounts is against the rules, so you'd have to delete the old one, but then you could just merge it and all the problems would be solved.

I honestly just can't see why any of this would be a problem. You just do it, and then everything is cool.

Wes I added a feedback for your new name linking the old acct, also put in there who you were so some people won't be so confused.

Hope that helps.

I couldn't find the link for the DC sale so I panicked and was forced to improvise.

That's what we got now. You can change your name, but you lose your shit. If you didn't, new nicks every two minutes is exactly what you would see.

It cracks me up that Merc thinks he's going to be satisfied with Papa Grizzly or whatever for the rest of his life... he won't be. He'll go through another phase where he's heavilly into Harlock again, or Kernow will convince him his new name does sound like a gay porn star, and he'll want to change again.

The thing about ebay is they keep a record of who you used to be, etc. But with the type of personalities this hobby attracts, that would involve a shitload of work for someone, because a lot of people here can't make up their mind for more than a week about anything.

Which is not to say you can't grow out of a name. I can understand Wes not wanting to be named after DBZ for the rest of his life, but like butta said, most people who have been here more than a couple weeks will know who you are and what you're about, with or without trader feedback. It wasn't that long ago we didn't even have trader feedback anyway...not something to lose sleep over.

Changing nicks will not be by request of the member but by the whim of the moderator. If we feel it fit, we might change your name to something like Purple Helmet, or Nutterbutter, or maybe Chips O'Hanrahan. But nothing like cool or hip, unless you like that kind of stuff. But don't bother asking, or we probably won't do it.

I gave judge dredd a solid 45 minutes of good cyber in exchange for a custom rank. As you can see, I still have no custom rank. Deal with caution.

I can't believe I'm the first to pick up this little Freudian slip.

The ability to change screen names doesn't exist on any forum I can think of and for good reason. To establish familiarity with the member by name, including deals and post reputation.

Creating new accounts is also something that we don't allow yet we seem to let people start a new one anyway if they don't like their name. In the rare case where accounts get merged it's usually after you have already worked at establishing the new name.

Really this just says that you should pick a name to start with that you can live with.

people rarely change there name but its nice once you get bored with a nic. They have a thread where you post your name change so everyone knows. It works out nice. I could see why its not a good idea for this forum due to sale threads.

I also think Kazuya's site had this option not sure though

I was on one forum where you could do it if you wanted to. Of course it got out of hand because people got very immarture. But sometimes when feeling nice the Admins would open up some name changes for a short time. If you missed the deadline oh well.

There's only one forum where I post that allows their users to change their name in the control panel whenever they want. I didn't know about it and I thought that people who changed their names were people I didn't know with high post counts. Later I found out and asking in "suggestions" if somehting could be done about this, and I was flamed by other users telling me that "I wanted to cut their freedom". Bullshit.

I don't think it's that big of a deal either, assuming you're not doing it all the time.

How many names has he [Merc] used now?

Four?

And you know he's just going to want to change it again a few months down the road.

You have to drawn a line somewhere.

Besides, the mods shouldn't have to take the time out of their day to merge old accounts with new ones in order to keep Trader Ratings intact and to make sure a sense of relation is established with the new and old accounts.

Hell... I'd actually love to change to my name to something less boring, but I'm not about to hassle a mod over it, since at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter (plus I've already gone through one forum handle before.)

Despite what I just said, I'd make an exception for Wes.

He's been around long enough and has wanted a name change for quite a while, so I'm all up for him getting his accounts merged, so long as he doesn't feel the need the to change it back to Konoha Flash... yipes.
