MP4 stereo support is just a click away.
Nintendo of Japan have updated their Play-Yan webpage with a ZIP file which contains the 544KB firmware update patch to allow MP4 movie playback in stereo sound. For those of you who have imported a Play-Yan, here are simple instructions on installing the patch:
1) Download the patch here. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/playan/firmware/playan.zip
2) Unzip the patch.
3) Put the patch on the same SD card as MP4 movie files and they will be displayed on the Play-Yan movie menu.
You can use this file to test it out. It is an 8MB movie of Link and Sheik from Super Smash Bros. Melee. http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/playan/firmware/mp4sample_movie.zip
An update for the Media Stage software that comes with the Play-Yan (program that is used for encoding video) will be released next month to allow it to encode in MP4. In the meantime you could use MP4 encoders designed for use with the PSP just fine.
