AES and MVS cartridges

I've never used an AES cartridge in my life - are they the same size, etc as MVS carts and so will fit into MVS cart slots?

I ask because I have a 2 slot MVS and was thinking of upgrading it to the Universe BIOS (partly so I can get hold of a few AES carts and use them as well as the MVS carts), yet a friend of mine tells me that AES carts won't fit into an MVS unit (either 1 slot, 2 slot, 4 slot, 6 slot, whatever).

I'm sure that he's wrong. Am I right?

Conversely, will MVS carts work in an AES unit (with the Universe BIOS)?

I would read the FAQ on this site but for some reason I can't seem to access the page.

They are not compatable with each other at all....

...unless you get one of these made http://www.neotropolis.net/34432.html

Still get Unibios for your MVS because you can switch between AES/MVS modes so in effect, you have both versions of the Cart/Game. Plus Unibios is Loaded with extra, useful features.

Thanks guys - so the only way to play an AES cart on an existing MVS system would be with the Universe BIOS _and_ some kind of adaptor to allow it to be plugged into the MVS, correct?

However, as stated by GnarlyDan, the Universe BIOS allows you to switch MVS carts between MVS and AES modes - that leaves me wondering, is this the case with ALL MVS carts that have an AES equivalent, ie by switching an MVS cart to AES mode do I always get the same game as I would with the AES cart?

Or are there exceptions?

99% of all MVS and AES carts have the Same Guts inside regardless of format or region.

The only difference is the Connectors.

The system decides what mode the game will run in.

As well as a different physical cart dimention
AES has 300 pins, MVS has 240 so they cannot be simply switched
