There's been some flack and a random e-mail about the existence/quantity of threads about emulation on the PSP. Before I take action on this I wanted to see what the population feels.

Traditionally, talk of ROMs and emulation has been taboo here, especially in the cases of Neo Geo. The one thing that has prevented me from eliminating the threads is that I haven't seen requests for ROMs or anything like that, though the question about ripping ISO files is close.

Other sites, like digitpress, have started to really limit ROM/emu discussion.

What are you thoughts (and votes)?

I second that... anyway the emulation threads multiplication is just a trend thing and in not too long will vanish imo

I voted allow it, but I would think a single thread would suffice. It's just that there isn't much talk here and if it is it's mainly PSP vs DS stuff. Oh and the occasional NGPC discussion.

most just want new ways to play there games and alot of us like to hack stuff.
even you dlite like to hack up the mvs, aes, and other consoles.
doing it software are hardware its all the same. ban one gotta ban them all
i mean whats the different between the unibios or the psp bios?
if someone dont like something they shouldnt click on it. its kinda like your tv just change the channel.

There's a very big difference between modifying hardware and using copied software. The Unibios is just like the GameShark, which is perfectly legal, but ROMs are completely illegal unless you copy it yourself from your own game (hence allowing ISO discussion may be fine).

It's not about "not clicking" on the link. It is something that we traditionally don't allow and also it completely litters up the forum such that it's both hard to find other topics and also makes many members not feel like posting topics.

I voted keep it for this same reason. I don't see the excitement for it staying at the level it is now, and quite frankly, there's not much else to talk about regarding the PSP right now. I don't have a single ROM/ISO whatever and I don't plan to start playing them, but I'm afraid the handheld forum would be deserted without those threads.

I'll be honest, I emailed D-Lite to complain about all this rom talk.

Then I asked him if he wanted to go to the carnival.

He hasn't replied yet.

Man I really like cotton candy.

One single thread should be enough, so I voted for it. However, if possible I'd like people such as kernow and Magnaflux out of it. It seems fair enough not to pollute the whole forum with this talk, as long as they don't spam the only allowed thread. Deal?

You know the site's take on emulation. I know I can't stop it or reduce it. If you keep your whoring to one thread I'll be civil.

There has been a gazillion of emu-related threads in Unrelated, and many people has posted in them. I remind you that emulation itself is legal, it's rom whoring what it's not, but I agree that people can find emulation talk unsuited here and I agree with them, specially when it takes over a whole forum that has to be shared among other things like this handhelds one.
That's why the single thread looks the best solution for both parts, but only if everybody plays by the same rules and respects them. We keep the whoring to one thread (of course with no illegal links to ROMZ) and you keep your poop out of it. It's that simple. If the thread gets destroyed by spam or bitching, then people will start to create new ones.

I hope this is reasonable to everybody involved :)

It's getting too silly for my liking. I want to find out stuff about actual PSP games on UMDs. Surely we could just have one big mega emu thread?

I'm sorry but I'm opposed to any kind of thread that could encourage by any mean the emulation scene here.

Right Wing or Liberal?
Republican or Democrat?
Ban all ROM/EMU talk or encourage it?

Well, what are the copyright laws regarding keeping an ISO dump on a stick? Is it totally illegal? Legal if you own a copy?

If things are illegal OR administration is against talk of ROMS here, then ban all discussion about it.

Creating a forum just for PSP emulation would make us look like hypocrites, so I feel that's not the answer.

Discussing PSP without emulation would be hard, especially considering many people's savage appetites for games and how few games are actually available for it.

The right thing to do is often not the most progressive plan but it would certainly envolve banning all emu talk. Yea emu is cool... but illegal.

Since when has ROM whoring of Neo games been looked down on here?

I mean, what like 2002, 2003 maybe yeah but that whole thing kind of fell apart when modded XBox's came out and non techminded people could go out and easily buy a box that would give them all the ROMMAGE they needed.

Hell even a mod went on about selling most of his AES collection and talked extensively about how great the XBox made Neo games look.

There have been (and still are) plenty of emulation threads in unrelated and sometimes in other forums as well.

People stopped caring when the Neo died, and when they saw how easy/cheap/good it could all be (modded XBox).

End of the day, that's what people want to talk about here, I say let em.

For the record, that's what A NUMBER of ppl want to talk about here, don't generalize your rom greed, man! ;)

Well... just because others or "someone you know" use roms and propagate them doesn't mean they would be legal, but that goes without saying. I wonder why you resort to cheap rethorics like that.

The reason why not every emu thread got deleted and the thread starter banned was because the mods hoped ppl would come down from their piracy craze, but it seems that all this "we're here to support our fave systems" babble of some guys here was just hot steam, given they don't let a chance pass where they can get a game for free.

What's more, we're talking about a more or less brand-new system, it's not that you guys would swap some rotten old 8-bit NES games. You know perfectly well that there's a difference between old and new stuff.

Oh, and I wasn't happy about all that Xbox emu bullshit as well, but that's prolly just me.

Conclusion: Even tho I have some gripes with all that excessive roms discussion, I would not want to get rid of every emu thread, one big emu-related PSP thread seems fine to me, so I voted for "Contain all PSP emu discussion in one thread".

That's just it, I'm not talking about myself or "some people I know".

I'm merely pointing out the fact that those threads are so common place and accepted that even a mod on this site was involved in the discussions, even making threads asking for help at times.

This place used to be HUGE when it came to stomping down ROM talk, yet now it's commonplace.

The only real reason was because now it's not limited to those "in the know" who cared enough to go through the trouble of figuring out how to make it work, get a quality display setup, and controls. Now anyone with $300 can get a modded XBox and some quality joysticks and get it loaded with ROMZ and have it work "out of the box".

That's when everyone stopped being so against the ROM talk and started asking questions.

Same deal goes with the PSP now.
