Ok, I just got a hold of two Jaleco 29" Pony Cabs. I'm really psyched about it and am going to pick them up on Saturday.

One of these two cabs is non-functional. I've been told it simply doesn't turn on. The fellow I'm buying them off of doesn't know what's wrong with it, and he said he isn't very knowledgable about such things.

Those of you in the know:

What could be wrong with the machine? Could it be a miswired Jamma Harness? a bad power supply? The other one works just fine, but I'm really hoping I can get the second one running too.

I'm fairly confident I can fix anything thats wrong with it unless it's a monitor problem. I guess I'll know come Saturday

My jaleco sigma cab has 2 power switches.
If 1 is off the cab does not come on.
1 is right inside the access door & the outher is around on the back of the cab.
Thought I broke it moving down the stairs untill I found the outher switch.

Ok,

I ended up passing on the broken one because the screen was a bit too burned (he had said it wasn't in e-mail). It probably looked alright with the unit on, but I came up with the money for two working ones - A Neo 29 Candy and a Jaleco Pony

I think I'm going to fix up (new buttons etc...) the Neo and sell it since I've already got one. I may try to keep the Jaleco and rotate the monitor for shooters

Ok, here's the deal -

The Neo Candy won't run anything because the Jamma Harness is really screwed up, I'm ordering a new one soon.

The Jaleco Cab works great, but the image on the screen seems to bow in a little at the top. I'm currently running it vertically and there doesn't seem to be a dial for this, just vertical and horizontal hold, size, and position - Any help?

I am guessing you can stretch the image horizontally for the bowing, otherwise a Cap replacement will be necessary.. I am not sure it will rectify your problem but its the only thing I can think of.

Its unusual for the harness to be screwed on any cabinet. If its the end connector just replace this by snipping one wire at a time and soldering the wire into the new one (one at a time). I did this once and it worked like a charm. Its doubtful that rewiring at the other end will make much difference unless you bought a cab from someone who didnt know what the hell they were doing with it, or someone did half a job and didn't finish it.

Exactly. It looks like someone snipped the original Neo harness that was in there at about an inch from the edge connector, and then twisted and electrical taped the wiring job to make it Jamma. some of them are untaped (exposed wiring) etc.... I can wire a new one, I've done it before.

As for the cap kit, the monitor looks great and has no other issues at all except the bowing at the top (left if it were horizontal)

What's a "Pincushion" in regards to the cab?

Ok - Pic Time:

The two new cabs:

Cross Hatch pic on Jaleco Pony:

Pic of Jamma harness on Neo Candy:

On this one I tested the MVS board and it worked, but I then tested my ESP Ra.De. board and it just gave back a pink and purple line distortion (didn't work at all)

screen

That is not much of a bow at the top..
If you stretch the screen a few mm's I do not think you would even see it..

It's a good bit more noticeable than the pic seems to show when I'm playing a game, but you're right, it isn't that bad

I'm in the process of rewiring that harness to MVS spec

Update:

I'm halfway through re-wiring the harness with some parts I got from Bob Roberts. I got the video working just fine, but cannot seem to re-wire the sound correctly.

I own two of these cabs and I tried to make the sound wiring on this one identical, but I'm getting something wrong. I think the speakers are not grounded correctly.

Currently I have pin L going to left speaker + and pin 10 going to right speaker +

I have the speaker ground going into one of the last four pins on the harness (I believe pin e

It looks on my other cab as though the sound is wired just this way. I'm wondering if somehow the cab volume is turned down??? there is a hole in the PSU that says V.Adjust, but I doubt thats it

Sorry to post so much, but I just found something interesting:

My Neo Candy has the same exact bow (!) that my other one has, in the same place and style (On the very right of screen because it is hori) etc....

This got me thinking - - - Maybe it's not the monitors, but something around them causing the interference. I'm going to move the cabs tommorow to another part of my basement and try it there, and see how the results change.

One other thing I was wondering - How does one "rejuvinate" a crt? The Neo CRT is a little bit dull and not as bright and vibrant as my other neo 29, I get the impression it needs "rejuvinated"

Also- I got sound working on the Neo, but it's really really quiet, I can hardly tell it's on (volume is maxed) any clues?

Connect L to +O_O- _____ +O_O-_____ to 10.

If your speakers are 8 ohm and daisy chained.

This way will make impedence of 16ohm.. So probably less power.

Or

Connect L to O+_______________O+

Connect 10 to O-________________O-

This method would make 2 8ohm speakers approx 4 ohm, so would be louder.

8ohm x 8ohm (8+8/16) = Approx 4 ohm.

I am not sure what format Jamma uses. Both will work fine.

Apart from using the pot calipers to brighten up the screen there isnt really much you can do. A cap kit could rejuvinate it, but its always a case of trial and error. It could certainly perform the function you want it to.

As for the sound.. try my method above.

They are 4 ohm speakers (fairly sure) - at least thats what ttooddddyy said comes standard in the model of cab (in another thread)

I'm also wiring for MVS, so putting a - on pin 10 wouldn't make any sense as that is "right speaker +"

Just hook up L+10 to positives and ground the speakers then.

I'm going to do this, should work out just fine. I think what was wrong was the connector piece (plactic crimp thing) was loose, as I got some louder sound by jiggling it
