Shoot a PM at Spike Spiegel, when I was there to pick up my cab he said he had the battery in his SF3: Newcomers changed

I'm sorry to say that it was changed before reaching my hands. Being a SF3 NG, it would have to be changed by now anyhow. The next time it comes up, I'll be worried, however. :envy:

on topic...sort of: this has always been a fear of mine, keeping me far away from CPS3 stuff.

off topic: this is the best post I've read in some time...glad you are back.

I would probably do the same thing. I'm gonna be looking for a nice
third strike kit soon here, but I would like to have some sort of
piece of mind.

Actually, if you can change a CPS 2 battery, you can change a CPS 3 one too. I've changed about 5 of them so far. For something like Jojo's or 3rd Strike, its a cinch. Just change it while the game is running. Sometimes the screen will go black or freeze while you are doing it, but just go ahead with the switch and it will be fine. For a game like Warzard or 2nd Impact however, the battery change is a nightmare. You can't touch the ground wire, therefore you can't unsolder the negative lead...you have to clip the negative battery lead high enough so that you can solder the new battery to it. I use a dremel and a cutting wheel to do it. Be careful though - one time while I was cutting that battery out, I hit it at the wrong angle and it busted open. I got that crap in my eyes, and the acid oozed all over the cart and motherboard. Needless to say, the game was dead. Third Strike is simple enough though...just use either a 3.0 V 1/2 AA or a 3.6 V like CPS2. Hope this helps.

Scott, where can I get the batteries and screwdriver (what kind is it) needed to open the cart in the USA?

Thanks,
Ryan

Would you do it for a fee?

I'm sure he'd make money from all the CPS3 people, and more importantly
help our games stay alive.

Hmm, I would do it, but I'm a little nervous after the Warzard incident...damn Capcom and their batteries :oh_no: The problem is what kind of battery Capcom uses, because you have to cut the negative end of the battery on the component side so the ground wire stays connected, and sometimes Capcom will use a battery with a very small negative lead (the red Maxells for instance.) Therefore, its very difficult to cut. If I was gonna do any it would be 3rd Strike or the Jojo's...those are pretty easy to do. (Anything with the black ground wire is an absolute nightmare though) Trust me its not that hard if you have some soldering experience. All you need is a 4.5 mm gamebit to open the cart, and the battery, and just swap it while the game is on.

3rd strike is the cart I'd most want fixed.

And I'm not good at all with soldering or any of that technical stuff. I r slow.

I'm not good at soldering either, only arcade stuff I'm good at is replacing
buttons and joysticks, simple stuff.

yea same here

I might be able to learn how to change the battery, but I don't want to try on a Third Strike, and fuck up my favorite fighting game of all time. I'd rather pay someone who knows what they're doing.
