Hi dudes!
I recently bouht me a NeoGeo cd Frontloading system and I am not that satisfied with it. It seems as if it has some technical problems because from time to time it switches of the power during playing. Is there anything different with the more common Toploading neogeocd? Is the Toploader more trustworthy? Does anybody know?

The front loader is known for breaking down, Having the door motor break ect.

My freind used to have one and IT broke.

Probly why snk stopped making the front loaders...

They things that really suck about the front loading is it can not be setup with a english/japanes switch.

You may want to try a stepdown power convertor since the frontloading is a japanese unit.

Hi 2 ALL!
I don´t think that the power off error that sometimes ocuurs has somoething to do with
the AV cable Big Bruno, because the Neo Geo Cd would be seriously damaged using the wrong cable. I mean it would start melting the console(!)or what do you think?!

For me there are two reasons why SNK stopped frontloaders. First as Caris Nautilus said, the door motor is not very resistant.Second,it's more expensive to build than a simple toploader(especially for the door motor).

Plus the front loading unit is huge and heavy. It didn't look like anyone gave too much effort into designing the thing. Just a black box with rounded edges.

As to your problem, my top loader has never done anything like that.

I also think it may be an AC power issue. There may not be enough juice going into the system (which wouldn't burn it up, but would cause it to brown out) -CD systems use the most juice when they access the CD.

I've had a recent experience with my Genesis CDX. It's a compact Genesis/Sega CD combo that I bought the other day (I collect odd systems) and I tried using my Genesis AC adaptor (being lazy...). The Genesis portion would work fine, but the Sega CD would start loading the CD and after a maximum of maybe 3 minutes it would reset the system (the status screen would dim in the meantime). At first I though the CD portion was defective (DAMN YOU EBAY! :-)), but then my engineer roommate told me to compare the AC adaptors and when we did we say that the CDX used a lot more juice than the Genesis 3 (the AC adaptor for the CDX weighed as much as a ColecoVision AC adaptor, if you've ever seen that monster)..

So based on that experience, I agree with Big Bruno's diagnoses.
