Coin Mech problem

I have a new small problem with my cab (the sound issue is still there. sadly): as soon as the machine has booted, COIN 1 is turned to 1, therefore putting one credit on startup. Not only that, but COIN 1 is permanently set to 1, so using the Unibios In-Game Menu I cannot start a game with player 1, because it just opens up said menu. Also the coin mech simply doesn't work (probably because of this), whenever I put a coin it doesn't register as a credit.

Any ideas? Razoola suggested the jamma wiring may be at fault, or that perhaps the coin mech may be broken or something.

There's a short somewhere that connects the coin pin to a ground, therefore the board acts like the "coin button" was always pressed. This could create quite a lot of trouble with many boards. If I were you I would just disconnect all coin mechs and just install a button that acts as "coin drop" when pressed.

Quite correct, sir. I unplugged the two cables which go to the coin mech. Result: whenever one of them touched other adjoining metal parts it added one credit. But still the 1 player was permanently ON, which I find strange. Then I isolated both cables with some tape and now it's ok, but I cannot use coins, which I'd like to. Hmmm...I guess trial and error is the way to go.

check the microswitch on the coin mech - the terminals are connected differently that all the other microswitches in my cab:

Code:
normal button microswitch:
 _O___
| |--- <--normally closed
|_____|--- <--normally open (wire here)
   |__ <--ground (wire here)

but on my coin mechs, ths microswitches are wired like this:
 _____
| O |--- <--normally open (wire here)
|_____|--- <--normally closed
   |__ <--ground (wire here)
check the side of the switches and it should give that info.

I hope this helps!

Nice drawing Lime2k. the switch on my cab is a little different though.

Code:
 _____

|___ |

It's wired like the other microswitches though.

is there writing on the side of the switch? look for a NO (normally open) and GND (ground) connection. That's where the two wires should be. If you could take a picture of the switch (with decent clarity) I could probably help you more.

The switch itself may be bad. Try hooking the wires up to another switch to see if the problem still exists. Or just swap the two on the coin mechs to see if the problem jumps to the other one.
