Hi its me with the broken pin in the connector again =)

i just got a mail from oldschoolgamer (the neo geo repair guys) and they told me that phantom-1 and some newer games will not work if 1 of the ground pins are broken?!

i have finally got my system to work, and the games i have work perfect...and i just thought about buying a phantom-1...=/ if this is true it would be devestating to me =( i havent had anything but trouble with my neogeo untill now when i finally got it to work...and now i hear this...=(

is it true? does games like Svc chaos (he told me) have 2 separate pins for ground?

Those were my results in testing.

I had a customer's System with a bent pin 2 in the uppermost B1 slot (if memory serves). Eventually it broke right off.

Once that happened, some games worked, some games did not. SS2 would work, as on it's cartridge edge, both of those cart slot connectors (1 and 2) were bridged. However, on SNK Chaos, it contacts pin 2 only in that spot, and has no connector for pin 1. It would not function. Once I replaced the missing cart slot pin, everything was fine.

Seems to me a cart slot with a missing pin will not be fully functional if at all. Of course I haven't tested all the pins to see which ones may be unnecessary. :)

Input on this issue would be welcome. I don't see OSG as the "Neo Geo repair guys" as described here. Sure, I can and do fix Neo Geo's, but OSG does not specialize in Neo Geo's. There are forum members here (Jeff Kurtz for one) whose knowledge of the Neo outstrips OSG's. I for one am glad of this forum as a place where this sort of info can be saved to benefit future knowledge seekers.

OSG services all game systems. When I get stuck, I come to places like this. :)

A test will show that pin 1 and pin 50 (both outside edge ground pins) have continuity, so it should work fine for these other games.

If not, and if you've taken that other pin out, let me know and I can send you a replacement pin - I have a few spare cart connectors here I can pull one from.
