Hi, I would like to make a VGA to component cable for PS2. I know most of the steps to making the cable, but there are some things I don’t understand.

1.For the component cables (Red, Blue, Green) the 220uf capacitor, what is the correct voltage?

2.The PS2 pin out #6, does it connect to LM1881 pin #2? Also the 0.1uf, what is the correct voltage?

3.The LM1881 pin #8, the +5v does it connect to PS2 AV input pin #10? If pin #8 does not connect to PS2 pin #10, where does it connect to?

4.The LM1881 is pin #4 and pin #6 suppose to be connected together? After connecting these 2 wires, where does it connect to?

http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/psxav.htm <- PS2 Pinout

Please help me out. Thanks a lot.

You do know that for this to work with a component television you will need an adapter right?? Because component video is NOT red, green, blue. It is Y, Pr, Pb, which was a standard devised so that RGB-like signals could be transported through cables less heavily shielded than standard RGB, because RGB is so bandwidth intensive.

With just the standard wiring on the PS2, you will only get VGA output on some games and ps2 linux.

To actually convert this to component video you will need a circuit like this:

Read this to learn more about it:

OK I tried to edit my post last night at about 2am but could not post it so here goes...

The ps2 WILL output component video like this but you only need to use the red, green, blue, and respective grounds.

Set your ps2 to Y/Pr/Pb (may say Y/Cr/Cb) in the menu without a disc. Then connect the pins straight through to the RCA jacks WITHOUT the LM1881. The LM1881 is only there to separate the sync signal from the green for use with VGA. If you want component it needs to stay on the green.

It would probably be easier and cheaper to buy them on ebay already built and with audio included.

cheers again,
