Greets!~

Any chance we could get larger avatars? There are plenty of nice animated gifs out there I'd like to use but cannot due to size restrictions.

Just a thought. :D

You can't have larger avatars, so just resize whatever gif you want to use to 64x64, and please, if possible don't make then big in KB size (I think there's a limit in that anyway).

I wish they would up the dimensions but keep the kb restiction. Most forums I visit have 100 x 100 :buttrock:

That's the thing.. I know that there's a size restriction and almost all of my animated gifs are above that size (64x64). Regarding KB, I wasn't too concerned with that..

It just seems like the avatars we get are tiny compared to many other forums I have visited... :crying:

Yeah I hear you. I hate loosing the amount of detail I do when having to resize every damn thing to 64x64, but this kind of request is never going to be taken seriously. It's been done a gugillion times before, and probably will be after this thread another thousand or so by the time the year 2012 rolls around.

The size is the best we have here IMO, it balances the small and large idea. I don't think we need SRK sized avatars, anything that contributes to quick loads is a must. If I was still on 56k, I almost wonder if I'd be in favor of no avatars at all.

When you think about dsl/cable pricing these days, there really is no excuse to own 56K. My friend has AOL optimized or some similar AOL garbage, and they pay near dsl fee's monthly. Nothing is optimized, its like some lie to further the sales of this concept in the idea that the connection is faster. In fact, I found it more funny my friend gets like 3+ k a sec. When I was on 56 I'd get like 6 down, and that atnt connection was very solid for dial up.

So keep the file size limit but raise the image size limit. *shrug* That wouldn't affect load time.

I don't see what the problem is here.... If so many people have brought this up in the past, why not do it? :blow_top:

^_^

Instead of avatars, we should have little customizable characters that we can dress up with our own clothes and items that cost money which we earn by posting and through contests and other neat things!

Personally I prefer the smaller avatars here. It's easier to scroll through pages since the posts aren't as tall. I say leave them as they are.

Posts of any significant content will on average have longer text than the area to the left of them where the avatar (and other info) is contained, I'd bet.. Well, unless your browser was superwide or something. Would another 40 or so pixels over there really make that much of a difference on scrolling? I dunno.. It would make a big difference on avatars though.

I can see both sides of it. Its just annoying to have all these neato animated gifs of SNK characters and not being able to use them. :crying:

Personally, avatars are fine the way they are for me. Actually, if it was up to me I'd put the limit at 25kb or don't allow animated ones.

If there is a problem with pixel size why can people have giant sigs? Maybe there should be a pixel limit for sigs too. People like aztec ninja have giant ones. Not KB big but just damn tall.

I mean if we are worried about scrolling for 100 x 100 avs sigs are much more of a problem.

I agree with you, many people has just too big sigs. However I disabled sig viewing when it was available and anybody who is bothered by them can do so. Of course you can also disable avatar viewing, but the difference is that you can automatically control avatar size, but not sig size; avatars are uniform but not sigs. And having avatars is also fun and useful to identify people, I wouldn't want to disable them, but most sigs are useless and redundant.

Alright for you haters out there, I'm converting LotR into gif format and putting it at the bottom of all my posts.

Are you saying that most people here have nothing significant to say?
