hey
i got my Neogeo home console and i tried what i thought was a 120v to 240v converter so i can use the JAMECO transformer given and ther was a small 1 second spark and then i smelt that electrical fire stuff coming from the transformer but no smoke... is this transformer fucked?
after that i went and found a 240v 9v transformer and used it on ym neo.. it powered up but gave me garbled squiggly lines and just absolute crap... would this be beacause its using a 240v 9c transformer when its supposed to be using a 120v 9v transformer?

HELP

The Neo works with DC so it doesn't really matter if it is generated by a 120V AC or 240V AC source. The power supply itself must of course comply with the mains power of your country: if Australia is 240V AC then the power supply input must be 240V AC.

If you did exactly what I quoted, yeah, you killed the "transformer". May it rest in peace. You needed a step-down converter (from 240 to 120 V AC) and not just a powerplug adaptor.

1- If you plugged a 120v psu on a 240 outlet chances are it died, It may be working but you´ll need a 240 to 120 to test it again.

2- On the 240v to 9v psu you tried, what is the amp of this psu and what is the polarity?

....what died? my Neo or my PSU?
i didnt turn my NEO on when i saw the 120v psu spark.

the 240v 9v is

INPUT: AC 240V 50Hz 17W

OUTPUT: AC 9V1.3A

I think you've done a big mistake: a PAL SNES uses a 9V AC adapter, while the Neo requires 9V DC...

This happens when you don't pay attention to things that look like details while in fact they're of the utmost importance.

I just checked some snes psu specs and it has the wrong polarity , the neo needs positive external and negative internal.

the snes psu wont work.

Do you have a mega drive 1 psu? Those work with the neo.

I think it might be ok.

If you use a AC current on a revised (but first generation) SMS, it just garbles the screen and doesn't kill it. On an orginal (but first gen) SMS, it blows up and smokes.

The Neo doesn't work with 9VDC actually. 9VDC is converted into 5VDC by the LM2476, so in my view the worst case scenario is that the LM2476 did not tolerate an AC input and was damaged but replacing it should fix the problem.

i´m having a hard time locating the mega drive 2 psu specs.

MKL, are you sure about what your saying? All console psu are AC to DC.

It's the same, the Neo (pro-pow 3 of course) accepts a very wide input ranging from 7v to 40v, so 9v or 10v makes no difference.

Just make sure it's 10V DC.

Yes, I'm sure. I live in a PAL country myself and can confirm that the PAL SNES has a 9v AC output.

the JAMECO
INPUT: 120VAC 60HZ 19W
OUPUT: 9VDC 1200mA

is what i got with my NeoGeo system.

i then tried the sae thing but with a PAL SNES 240v input to 9vdc output adaptor and the neogeo had garbled video.

i plugged the jameco adaptor into a pin converter to AUS power pins and the powersupply had a little spark and then i smelt electrical fire smell.

i didnt turn the Neo ON when the jameco adaptor sparked.

so what exactly have i done.

1) have i killed the jameco 120v adaptor?
2) have i killed my Neo?
3) was my neo already dead?

i have a sony PSX 7.5v DC adaptor will this work?

ps. my mega drive 2 adaptor didnt fit the Neo

Using the SNES PSU was a bad idea. It might have damaged your Neo.

As for the Jameco PSU, if it's one of those sold by the Neo store it should have worked if used with the right step-down converter, that is 240VAC ---> 120VAC (note that in your first post you say the other way round).

My advise is to buy a generic power supply with these features:

input: 240VAC
output: 9VDC (or 10, 11, 12, it's the same)
output plug size: 2.1mm x 2.5mm
output plug polarity: negative tip

you´re out of options now, the easiest way to solve it now is go out and get a mega drive 1 power supply.

md1 psu specs:
240ac to 10dc
1.2a
polarity: positive out, negative in.

if it damaged my Neo.... would it have made it non-working like no power?

ive got a multi voltage adaptor
it has an input pf 230 - 240v 50hz

and an output of 3 to 12V DC

can i use this on my Neo?

does garbled video on a neogeo sound odd?

so i have to buy an adapter
INPUT 240V AC
output: 9V DC
negative tip
right?

and it should work with a NeoGeo even though its a JP one?
