Alright fellow gamers, I have seriously got to vent here.

These F-IN LAME ASS COMPANIES like...EB, GAME STOP, SOFTWARE ETC, GAME CRAZY, etc, have certainly got to stop with this TATTOOING every game box with their stupid ass advertisment stickers.

Here is a perfect example of an experience I had last night. I go to EB Games to collect on a game I had a $5 deposit on that I totally forgot about. It is KOF 02/03 for PS2. In anycase they had one left (display box) and they had TATTOOED it with 4 stickers for various advertisments of things they offer.
Not only do they do this to the used games, they have started on the new games too!!

WTF!?! WHY? this BS has got to stop!

These companies have got to stop this unnesasary abusive crime of TATTOOING game boxes with advertisments. It is seriously uncalled for, it is completly inconsiderate in every way.

And their lame ass excuses are unacceptable. I have yet to find one Manager or employee to diagree with me. They all state "it comes from the top" and "others complain too", well then make it stop!

I hope that this poll will get the vote in the right direction, because I am going to submit this to all the companies, I have had enough of this crap. From now on I will just do my shopping on the internet or Ebay.

I dont know about the rest of you, but I like to have games on my shelf that look clean and unabused, rather than have games that look like they came from a pawn shop.

I like to play video games, not stare at boxes.

Aesthetics mean nothing if it doesn't hinder my gaming.

personally I don't care. I rarely buy my games from those lame ass stores. There are plenty of other stores that sell games at better price.

I agree 100%. These stickers really mar the game boxes, are hard to get off, and usually leave a big gummy nasty residue on the plastic of the case. Especially on new games, we should have the option not to have their ridiculous stickers slapped all over the front and back.

BTW you actually let them sell you an OPENED copy of this game as if it were new? Thats another ridiculous practice they have, trying to claim that a game is new when they opened it already. Whenever I ask for a game and they start to pull out the disc/manual from their little drawer, and get the greasy stickered up "display case" from the shelf, I tell them I want a NEW copy, not a USED one. When they try to claim it is still "new", I tell them that if it were new, it wouldn't be opened, would it?!?! Screw that, if its new, its sealed . . . otherwise, its used. PERIOD.

I never shop at those stores (I didn't even know about that practice until I read this thread). I usually get my new games online or at BestBuy (until they start doing something stupid).

You're about as big an asshole as I am. If I'm plunking down $50 on a new game, that shit better still be shrinkwrapped with the little tag embedded in it.

I have to say I agree with Breach on this one. It annoys me terribly to get a game with unnecessary stickers posted all over it. Sure, it may not hinder the way the game plays, but it is irritating, kind of like how your games always come back with cracked cases and tattered manuals from your friends who borrowed them...

On a side note, lighter fluid or Goo Gone works well to remove sticker glue. Use it on a Q-Tip. If the game has marker all over it (which I see a lot), use rubbing alcohol (70% isopropyl) to remove it.

Voted no because I am lame just like the companies.

No, actually it's more like Wopat said- I don't buy current games as collector's items, so I don't really care what's stuck on the box.

Though Chimp brings up a good point that could be inferred from the stickers being on an OPEN game.

I'm still too much of a "meh" to get onboard.

But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to get you a clean box if you want one and care more about it than I do.

Oh the best story ever!

My brother goes to buy Guild Wars at EB, they sell him a re-sealed copy without mentioning it, after he gets home and opens it up he finds the cd-key has been scratched off. The game was unplayable as someone had bought the game, installed it, and returned it as new. EB new of this and still sold the shit to him.

I agree, I don't like them either. But it probably won't stop. It's like telling Mcdonalds to stop airing commercials. It will never happened. I would only have a problem with it, if it is done to new sealed game. I haven't experienced that yet.

If you don't have one, get a Hair Dryer. You can take stickers, price tags off that way. The heat melts the sticky stuff, and the stickers come right off. It hardly ever leaves a resedue, unless you are impatient.

Agreed also, however the employee checked his computer it was absolutley the last one out of all their stores in Arizona. And I did ask for a discount for the opened (used in my opinion) game, and that was a no go.
As of right now it is on hold for me, I desided I am going to look for one on the Bay, but I found nothing at all. This game appears to on the verge of becoming scarce.

I'm sure you can still fine KOF 02/03 for PS2 somewhere . . . it can't be totally gone. But consider that it is coming out for the XBox on 8/15, you might just want to wait:

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/242206.asp

I'll check around here to see if there are any new sealed copies available.

Thats why you don't buy the display box if you're concerned about this sort of thing.

Or shop at Best Buy.

UUmmmm...maybe you did not read the whole thread, or maybe didn't see my response to Chimps post?

Let me refrase for you..."It was the last one in the entire state of Arizona".

I got lucky as I didnt even think theyd have one at all.

And in case you haven't been to EB's lately, I have news for you, they are stickering up all new and used games. Yes you read that correctly, all NEW and USED games.

Uhm, if you don't like the stickers, don't buy the game? Maybe you should have waited until they got more stock in (assuming they do) to pick up your game? The EB where my brother works doesn't sticker opened NEW games (yeah, let's all get into the argument that it's been opened so it's no longer new... blah blah blah, you know what I mean when I say NEW, and if you don't NEW in this rant means NEVER BEEN BOUGHT OR USED BY SOMEONE ELSE), but they sticker the used ones.

When it comes to labeling a game used, do you also think they shouldn't do it? Then you run the risk of retard customers coming in, buying the cheaper game then coming back and being angry because it was used.

On a new game, it is annoying, but it's not like you don't have other options. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Don't like it? Buy it from somehere else. Problem solved.

The last one in Arizona EBs. It's not like EB has a database that tracks all the software sold via all of the sellers in Arizona. So no EB in Arizona has the game. Perhaps Wal*Mart? Target? Best Buy? Mom and Pop Down the Street?

Or you can always find one online using your good friend FROOGLE! At least eToys has it in stock.

So it's not like you don't have other options.

Don't like their business practices, don't buy from them. It's that simple. Afraid you can't find a game? Don't buy from them as then you are compromising your integrity. That's what I hate about people. "I'll never buy XXX because YYY" then a week later they turn around and do it because "I didn't have any other options." When it comes to buying games, you have options. Playing games isn't a life or death thing, it's entertainment and you won't die from a lack of entertainment. You might be bored, but you won't die.

I think that EB/Game Stop own stock in Goo Gone. I say this because Goo Gone is about the only product that works on getting these stickers off. EB/Game Stop make money on both ends.

Its not always an option to find games at other stores. The big chains often don't bother to get in more obscure titles, so EB, Gamestop, Game Crazy, etc. may be the only options. However, though I will buy an occasional game from them, I don't buy very many . . . and I never accept the stupid "demo" copies as new . . . whoever does just allows them to keep getting away with that bullshit policy. New = factory sealed, everything else = used. They should understand that and charge less for their "gutted" copies (yes, they use that exact term in the stores, so they understand), since trying to pass them off as "new" is just retarded.

Totally. I hate when BB does that to movies. They put their damn UPC tags on them, and sometimes they don't come off easy, so you're stuck with a DVD case that has these bits of sticker residue on them.

I usually get my games online. (No game stores out here) I usually buy from Amazon.com (Toys R US), or Ebgames.com. And they don't put stickers all over my shit.

My biggest gripe is the fact that they are selling me a used game as new. The box, meh but i HATE when I get a "new" game with the clerk's greasy fingerprints all over it. I'm really uptight when it comes to the condition of game discs.
