An interesting video of some kid pulling a prank on Tom Cruise during an interview. I know everyone has different opinions of the guy, but this seemed a bit out of line. Tom handled it pretty well. Check it out for yourself.

This was for a new show on Channel 44 in the UK.

His reaction rofl, turned it round............I don't think Cruise deserved that, despite his bloated status.

The squirters are supposed to be TV pranksters but they don't seem to have the same skills as the Punk'd boys, do they? Either that or Tom Cruise doesn't like getting squirted in the face. :shame:

I hadn't seen the clip yet and Tom, although he hasn't done anything decent almost 20 years, did stand up to them quite well.
The four guys responsible were arrested on suspicion of assault before released on bail.

That guy was a total asshole, and it was uncalled for. I suspect it has to do with a gay bukkake fantasy involving Tom's Cranium.

Tom's lucky it was just water... This Could have been a terrible event.

LOL, true story:

I just went to the comcast homepage to check my email. If anybody else uses comcast they know this, but on the frontpage they have annoying flash or java or whatever that shows news stories and pictures. Now, this being Comcast and all, they highlight the most vapid and/or sensationalistic shit in the news (much like every other mainstream media outlet, but even more geared towards fat celebrity-obsessed housewives).

So the first headline is about Tom Cruise getting sprayed in the face. And i swear to god, the fourth or fifth thing that crossed my mind was, "hmmm, i bet somebody like Jedah Doma will post this at ng.com. Hahahaha he sucks worse than Tom Cruise."

So yeah, i'm fucking psychic.

At least from the places I've seen (and before I'm labeled as a tabloid-hound, I get my news from IMDB) the quartet were charged with Suspicion of Assault.

It's basically a way of saying they did something intentionally that caused their target to get hit (spray water as a gag, throw a baseball into a crowd, etc.)

Unless I'm interpreting the law incorrectly...

My favourite part was Tom grabbing the guy before he could disappear into the crowd.

Anyone know how they nabbed the other two members of this group?
The video seems to show the interviewer, and the camera man is involved as well. I'm surprised the other two didn't deny all involvement.

Yay...good one on old tommy for grabbing the muppet....he should have held him in a headlock & tango-slapped the guy !!...heh...no...no...i think he behaved really well considering an impulse reaction like that...a bit of fun like that is fine with mates...but a star celeb & your gonna get some real flak & trouble if you get your coller felt...the guy probably thought tom was going to be REAL aggressive... and was ready there with his scroates ready to film it all & dis the guy for something they had caused in the first place!!....justice.

Yeah i also thought he handled it very well.

Things haven't been going too hot for Cruise in the P.R. world lately, people still give him shit for the "Katie, i'm in love!" outburst.

Admittedly he was acting like a loon, but still. Worse things have happened IMO.
Just seems that everyone's been waiting for Tom to really fuck it up somehow, cos he's had that shining image forever. And now they've got their opportunity... It's in fashion to bash Tom Cruise.

Well at least he didn't throw the waterguy with a telephone.

I'm suprized he took it so well. I think that many actors would have gotten violent or atleast lost their cool. I think if I was in his position (working, trying to promote his movie) I would be more pissed off.

And i would have said:

Okay, I retract my earlier statement. Other than Magnolia, I haven't thought any of his work has been great since A Few Good Men.
I think it's just that he's a good actor but people treat him as if he's one of the best of all-time, which is fine - I simply don't happen to share that opinion.
Still, he didn't deserve how this all went down.

wizkid007, I think you missed the point: If he was just pranked, they could have then explained it and maybe things would have been all right. They squirted him in the face, said it was just a joke and then tried to take off.
Most people have a better sense of humour about someone once they're let in on the joke.

As previously noted, you're pretty on-target.

In the US system (which is related to the UK system), assault is creating the apprehension of harmful or offensive contact, battery is when a harmful or offensive touching actually occurs --including getting hit by water. In this case they could certainly be arrested, but the harm/offense causes was so minimal that it won't have serious criminal/civil consequences.

In New york, you'd be charged with harassment in the second degree (violaton) at the most.

You could probably get it plead out to an Adjounment in Contemplation of Dismissal (Don't plead guilty, it gets dismissed as long as you stay out of trouble for a fixed amount of time) or disorderly conduct.
