for the iPod owners out there

I'm working on a piece and need some input. Does here have an iPod but HATE the earbuds due to the "image" they carry, fear of being robbed, suspect sound quality, or any other factor?

I hate the earbuds because they're uncomfortable. I ditched them ASAP and bought these:

The earbuds that come with the iPod are "servicable," but they are uncomfortable after about 20 minutes. I am currently searching for a replacement.

Also, getting rob is not a problem for me. Being 6'10" and 310 helps deter would be theives

The ear buds are the gayest things ever made. Mine are still sealed in plastic.

I truly hate the image that Ipod earbuds give you.

If you're going to use high quality headphones make sure you buy a headphone amp. I recommend http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufacturer/headroom-products/headroom-total-bithead.php one. It even has a USB port so the amp can be used as a stand-alone sound card for any pc. If you do not get an amp the ipod's battery life will turn to shit, less than 4 hours...

they work great and I'm sure they're all I'll need when I finally plunk down the $$$ to buy an mp3 player (I'm buying a flash player and all rumors are pointing toward a big price cut in memory).

The one that Apple advertises. If you like that image, by all means use the earbuds. It's become cool to use white earbuds no matter if they're shit or not.

If you're looking for good source material, The New York Times did an interesting article last month or so talking about how the iPod had become the item of choice for theft on the subway and other areas --a direct result of its new status in society. It also mentioned, even when people would hide the actual iPod, that the unique earbuds were a telltale sign for thieves.

Might be a great source for you.

I picked up a pair of Sony headphones simliar to this pair. They are worth the money. They have three custom sizes to fit your ear and they sound amazing. These are the best sounding headphones I've owned in a long time, and because they have the soft rubber silicone, they can be worn for days on end.

I dont give a shit about the "image."
I care about the sound. The ipod buds are decent for the pack-ins, but anyone who cares about sound quality will get something else.

Those sony's are shit BTW. etymotic > * for earbuds (shure is 2nd).
