I have a computer that I bought about a month ago, and it has a DVD burner. I have yet to use the burner to burn a DVD (I've only been burning CD's so far).

I was wondering what program(s) I should use to burn say an avi or mpg file onto a DVD disk so I could watch it on my TV. Since I have no experience in burning DVD's any info would be helpful. Thanks.

ay, say, i did my shit like this.

programs: tmpgenc 3.0 wit the dvd authoring software

use the tmpgenc 3.0 to convert ya video file to DVD MPEG 2.0. After that, use dvd authoring software.

go to videohelp.com and use the tutorials that show ya how to do it with the programs so you get more detailed and accurate instructions.

All you need is the newest NERO and DVD Shrink. Nero you can get on lime-wire sometimes...dvd shrink is for free from their web site.

Nero will burn anything you want to a DVD or CD. And DVD shrink will let you copy any DVD you want to your hard drive or a blank DVD. It uses compression if you have a single layer burner (4.9 Gigs or whatever), but it does a very clean job...you can even take out menus and audio you don't use to save space.

nah, mayne, dvdshrink sux ass if you gotta compress it. I sugest using dvdfab and just do a 2dvd split. I mean, if we talking quality, then do the 2dvd split, but if you dont mind ya dvd's being grainy and subpar quality..sometimes it can make it dark in places..than go ahead and compress ya dvd.

DVDFab also strips away shit and leaves just the movie, sometimes it can fit on a 4gb dvd, sometimes it cant.

You can rip stuff full quality on DVD Shrink, just turn off compression. Only problem is it will be more than 4.5 gigs that way. DVD Shrink is good because you can easily seperate the main movie out and make an ISO directly.

Nero Vision Express is a good program for burning AVI and MPG files as a DVD Video. You can throw on simple menus with it too (and I do mean simple, nothing special, but usefull if you put more than one movie on a disk).

Thanks for saving me the typing.

Its the best combo I have found, I have used most everything. Even when compressed they look DAMN good, you'll be hard pressed to find any newer movie to copy that is not on a dual layer disc.
I have a DL burner, but at 5-6 bucks a disc it isn't quite worth it to me yet. Maybe when they hit 1-2 bucks I will use it.

The only discs I have seen any degrading in quality was the sopranos DVDs. They cram 4 hours worth on it as it is...so when its compressed even further than OEM...it does get a little ruff here and there...but still better than 80 bucks a season.
