I just ordered a PSP and while looking through some stores I noticed something...
Out of all the stores I went to, I never actually saw a PSP out for demo purchases!
Question:
Why do you think this is so?

Cause there is no need. Not to mention the fact that Sony is going through a big shortage. They can barely kept them in supply.

Shortage? There is no shortage of PSP units.

Try finding one in the philadelphia area... oh and south jersey too.

They've been selling out their weekly allotments around here almost everytime I'm in the store.

From my perspective, no they can't keep 'em in stock.. it may be different else where.

I assumed it was because they were delicate as all hell. Maybe/maybe not?

The main reason is durability, they are fragile and expensive, and of course in many large cities, they are completely sold out. So probably no demo units for a while.

The way people treat demo units, I am surprised any exist at all. I have a four year old that has to beat the shit out of the GBAsp and Nintendo DS demo units every time he sees one.

Of course those two hold up pretty well, I can't imagine what he would do to a PSP demo unit.

Maybe it's a shortage is just some of the bigger cities, but everywhere i've been (4 EB's in 2 cities and 2 Bestbuys) they're pretty well stocked, nobody's buying. I figure that they're just so fragile, so no demo units but I never figured on the shortage angle.

Completely sold out of Northern Cali. I was going to buy one for my bro's birthday, but the 15 EBs/Gamestops I called were all sold out. A few of them laughed and were like 'we've been sold out for weeks, and they sell instantly once we get some in, but you can place a special order and you might get one'.

Camp Lejeune? Ooh-freakin-rah.

I have not seen a single store in this area that doesn't ahve at least 20+ in stock. Maybe in a few area there is tight supply, but this isn't the case for the whole US.

But it is. I've been in AL and I am currently in TN and many places are without units. It's hard to believe, but it's true. I had to go to 3 different stores to get my PSP in May.

Most stores like Gamestop, EB and such are constantly sold out, but larger chains such as Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy have a large supply, at least around here.

Have you tried the Targets in SF and Daly City?

On launch day, all the targets had a shitload.

It's worth a try. But really the best bet I think It seems is to order online.

Not in stock. Walmarts here have way to many of them. They've been selling so low that EB won't even match prices.

Nah... I usually buy all my games from EB or eBay. Gamestop if I'm desperate. For some reason, it feels dirty to buy a game from a Walmart or Target.

the 2 Gamestops by my apartment have 10 or more each, the WalMart has had the same one for about a month so I don't see any shortage around New Orleans

The only places I've seen PSP demo units is in Japan, and they were available for sale there, no shortage, likewise no shortage around where I live. Naturally the sucker was very beat up. God knows what would happen to the demo units here in the States if kids got ahold of them, especially for the price tag. I imagine Sony can't afford to demo any, as they need every dollar they can earn to break even on the PSP.

But it isn't, obviously, if people are telling you they have plenty around them... just as I do around here.
