Hi, razoola recommended me to this site for this problem. Forgive me for my newbness to the site. I also posted this in arcade central. since I didnt know what the appropriate place was to post this since this is a neogeo site and my questions is capcom related.

ok i got a cps 3 board thats configured for sf3:New Generation (the ram setup). i got a 3s (3rd strike) disc, but i need the additional ram and the dongle cart for 3s. so basically i need one more 64mbit simm on the left, and 3 more 128's on the right to have the appropriate ram config for 3s. but i dont want to invest in ANOTHER cps3 set just for 3s when its not neccessary.

so my question is, are each stick of ram specifically designed? i noticed on some cps3 boards, that each ram is labelled differently, like one is labeled for sound, one labeled for program, etc... is each stick literally different? or is it just labeled for the hell of it cuz thats what gets stored in that ram when its in that specific slot?

cuz if it doesnt matter(which i hope it doesnt), i wanna take the cheaper route and just bid on a cheapo ng or 2i kit for far less money and salvage the ram towards 3s. then in the end, just acquire the dongle cart separate, which i see from time to time.

so is this possible? or is each stick of 128's and 64's all specifically designed for specific purposes?

i have also been told that some 3s sets only run off 4 128's on the right as opposed to 5 that the game claims it needs for it to run. so i wanna know if theres any truth to that?

also, is there region lockouts? can i use japan versions on a US board (if theres even a difference)? and vice versa

anyone that has in depth knowledge, please post.

thanks

The SIMM's for CPS3 boards are generic between games. All that matters is their capacity. You can swap the SIMM's from one game to another, and one slot to another, so long as the needed capacity is there. You can always have larger capacity SIMM's than the game needs, that is ok, it just wont use all the space.

I have never come across any region locking. I have an Asia JoJo cart, it works fine on my US CPS3 motherboard.

awesome, thanks for the info bud. thats all i needed to know. only reason this question got sparked was because of the labels on the ramwhich worried me if each ram was designed differently.

thanks again!
