I got a job offer from a company making more money than I do now. I'd be working from home which $$ wise would be great.

Now for those of you that do work from home. Do you have alot of truoble staying motivated and on task? Also does being at home alone all day affect your mood or habits in any way?

Any other pros or cons that I should take into consideration?

what kind of work would you be doing?

in other words, what do you do for a living?

for the summer I got a job doing website stuff for my college. I get to work from home and it is very difficult to stay on task. But they give me very little work to do anyway. Like last week they gave me nothing to do so I just stayed home and did nothing. It sucks because I may have no work to do but I have to stay by my pc in case they send me a message or an email with work to do.

It has it's ups and downs but I don't mind it. As long as you get the work done you shouldn't have any problems. On the bright side you don't have to pretend to be busy like if you were at a desk in an office. You can just chill out and watch tv.

I work at home, it's not as great as you would imagine. There is no division of work and home... expect the opposite of staying motivated, expect to be called into longer work days and the idea that you are always in the office. Your problem will probably be turning off the work, not working when you are at home. Sure, it gives you a lot of freedom, but you are expected always to be available... since you are always in the office. It's not horrible, don't get me wrong, but it's not a cake walk. A simple in the office job creates a much better quality of life if you ask me.

Reminds me of one Everybody Loves Raymond episode where he works at home but can't get anything done, heh.

But good luck. I can see how it's easy to get distracted, but many people wish they could do their work in the privacy of their own home and no need to throw on a pair of slacks or socks.

What he said. You never leave the office. In fact, I'm still working.

I'm a freelance IT worker and I do lots of my administrative work from home.

Motivation is a constant problem, but I have found a few simple workarounds to self-support me.

First rule: Keep up the same routine as you would if you'd leave the house - shave, brush your teeth, have a wash and get dressed. Don't, I repeat, DON'T sit around in your pyjama all day, try to create a work/office-like atmosphere to push yourself forward.

Next, if space is not an issue, find a place other than your living room or bed room to work in. A separate office would be a good idea, preferrably one without any stuff that could distract you, you know, vg consoles/games, posters, your CD collection, etc. Keep it business-like.

Try to keep up fixed work hours with scheduled breaks, sometimes I also leave the house for a quick snack. I find it hard to work a little, then do something else, and then return to work - I prefer to work for eight hours straight, then I close the door to my office and that's that - then I'm really "at home".

Also, separate/additional phone numbers are a good idea. It's tax-deductible, and you can be sure you won't get distracted too much by your friends and family.

Hope this helps.

I'm about to start this....

anyone tried this? I haven't started yet, I have to pay 20 or 30 bucks to get training.

My first day of class at a technical institute is tomorrow, and I found this to help make some money at home instead of getting juggled between two different people's schedules.

I'd be careful of places that ask for start up or training money ahead of time. But let me know how it works out for you. seems interesting.
