Do I sound dumb if I say that I would like to use mac OS X on an apple machine?

You know what scare me in this situation. It's that I think Apple is following the same path than Sega, they are slowly quiting the hardware business and will focus on the software+Ipod business.

Some of you may like this.

I don't.

Naw man I would like Apple to stay in the hardware business too. OSX's features just puts windows to shame, stuff like smart folders, databases, and that sweet search function. I can't see myself migrating to mac anytime soon because lots of stuff I do only works for pc., but the reverse is also true. Lots of stuff I want to do on mac is only for mac. If I could have the best of both worlds by Apple making an x86 based OS I would switch in a heartbeat.

Technically, it would still be an Apple machine, at least insofar as that every component in the system would have to be "cleared" by Apple prior to shipping. It's not as though one would be able to boot OSX on a Dell or an HP* (well, speaking from experience, that's a half-truth**, but still).

*I can imagine HP co-branding certain Macintoshes at some point, perhaps the HP Powerbook?

**Through the power of emulation, a friend of mine actually loaded Panther on his Dell laptop. But I don't think that you'd be able to "officially" do that, at least not yet.

you can run mac osx on pc via emulation but it is slow as hell :P i really hope the PC build gets leaked but as said, it will be limited to PIV with intel chipset and that s not what i have in mine (AMD with nforce2 chipset)

Yeah, I've seen the emulation, but it's not quite there yet. :kekeke:

I have a couple intel setups, and I've heard rumors that Apple may be working to get OSX running on all platforms.

OSX for my PC....I just wish there was an A64 build of it out already.

Hopefully Apple will support x64 better than MS plans on doing this year.

Well the leak was a hoax. Just a bunch of random text files once unzipped.

There is no way Apple is leaving the hardware business. They make their biggest margins on the hardware and since they control the components, they ensure the best compatibility with the system software. That is the big issue in the PC world, that Windows is one piece of software that has to run on tons of different possible combinations of parts. Not so friendly.
