Best Star Wars Saber-Fight

After seeing Episode III I was disappointed with the Saber-Fights. IMO they weren't on the same level as the ones in Episode I with Darth Maul, Qui-Gon, and Obi-Wan.

My Fav is the final saber-battle in Episode I with Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. Obi-Wan wants to get at Darth Maul so bad for killing Qui-Gon, he's bouncing right before the force field is about open. That fight was fast, intense, and choreographed well. I loved all the saber-fights in Episode I though.

Luke vs. Darth Vader in Ep VI deserves honorable mention.

What's yall opinion.

darth vader and obi wan in a new hope. that fight scene may not be full of special effects, and may not be very flashy. but it's such a deep scene with such a deep message. obi wan gives his life up on order to show luke that it is he who needs to learn the force, it is he who has to save his father, and he who has to show to anakin that he is the chosen one to destroy the sith. the fight may not look like much but it says a lot.

Luke vs. Vader hands down. Its really the culimnation (and yes, I realize it technically IS) of the entire series. Luke nearly falls to the dark side while trying to pull his father from it. Its a very powerful scene.

They all bring something different. If what you like is frenetic Hong Kong style action, then obi-Wan/Qui-Gon/Maul in ep 1 is for you. Anakin and Dooku in ep 2 is more visually abstract, more in line with some of what Kershner did in Empire. Anakin vs. Obi-Wan in ep 3 is kind of a midground between those extremes.

I like all of them in different ways, but I can see how someone could be disappointed in some of them if they had a favorite, and expected all the others to follow the same pattern.

I'd have to say either Anakin/Dooku in Episode III or Palpatine v. four Jedi, also in Episode III.

Episode I's climactic duel was pretty nice also.

Obiwan v. Darth Vader in Ep. III.

It was an emotionally powerful scene when Obi Wan tells Anakin how he failed him and let everyone down, which had a little Ninja Scroll element to it.

Agreed. Not to mention the fact that the setting was splendid. One of the greatest pieces of movie cinema this decade was that battle.

Second I would have to say Luke vs Vader in ESB and then Luke vs Vader in ROTJ.

Probably the worst delivered acting line ive seen in a major production.

That said......the whole scene is great.

I'm in the same camp with the Darth/Obi fight in III. It was great.... nice action, long, good lines and acting. I also liked how Obi told Darth how he failed him. I know Star Wars always has poor acting, but I like how the line "you were supposed to help destroy the sith, not join them!" was delivered. A great fight. By that time, I think it's safe to say, both characters were established badasses in the movie.

See, I'm critical of that sort of thing, and I wasn't bothered by it. I dont' think Hayden did that poor during most of the movie. I didn't care for him much in II, but I thought he was much better than III. I'd love to see some of you guys do better. Hell, it's STAR WARS, not Gangs of New York!

Hah yeah, im trying not to be critical, i thoroughly enjoyed it.........it's not as if Mark Hamil ever did any good acting

That is fucking powerful.

Qui-Gon/Obi vs. Maul, easily. Very, very easily, actually. The part that lasts two seconds where Maul uses the force to pick up a droid head and fling it across the room to hit the button that opens the door is better than any other fight in the two trilogies combined, all by itself!

It ironically loses luster by constantly intercutting with the worst space-battle in the entire trilogy ("Wahoooo!"), but it isn't enough to knock it down the list.
