So Ive been searching for a car to bring up with me to college in the fall and I found a pretty good deal for an Audi A4.... Are Audis reliable? Would it be worth it to buy an A4? Do you guys have experience with an Audi?

audi makes in my opinion the best cars on the market. both in reliability and in power. their cars are a nice middle ground between race inspired high performance vehicles and good looking luxury cars. they're also good handlers and great for getting chicks. and of course they're very reliable. the engines are easy to maintain, and the car itself wont run into many problems at all. which A4 is it? the 1.8T, the 2.5T, or some other variant? people like to say that audi's suffer from underbody rust, but that was in the 70's and 80's, now their quality control has gone up and their car's quiality in general has too. audi makes my personal favorite car out there the S4 and they are my favorite car company with a history as rich and as deep as germany themselves. founded in 1909 they were the first to left mount a sterring wheel, and the first to come up with a true traction control system with their quattro all wheel drive. they hold trophies in rally racing, and LeMans, and make a stylish and beautiful car. get an audi and get something good. and if you're getting the S4 with quattro all wheel drive well you're in for a great trip. such incredible handling where each individual tire is given a different amount of power from the engine based on what is happening on the road. it's much better stuff than any other dual differential 4-wheel drive system. get in the audi, get something good.

STAY AWAY! They are mantience hogs. My friend had a brand new A4 back in 2002, got rid of it last year cause he was so fed up with it. The Audi A4 will not last you.

that's a damn good deal. a car like that in that shape could easily fetch around 20,000 easy. you're getting a great deal despite any possible electrical problems. plus it's the quattro, with the 2.8. i can't say that it wont have electrical problems in the future, any and all cars with electronic ignition systems, air intake regulation, or compression regulation, GPS, or any other sort of electronics can have problems. even power windows can fuck up, it's a fact of life. and the only way to avoid it is to keep the car mainteneced regularly.

The problem with this entire scenario is that there really isn't any place to go once you're up there. :kekeke:

maintenencs hogs my ass. my uncle has been an audi buyer since he got his first quattro in 87. and he's loved em since. he went from a quattro, to an A4, to an S4, and now he's got a TT with all the others still out in his garage and all still running. audi is owned by volkswagen and are known for good quality vehicles just as much as VW is. i stand by em and love the cars.

No Car is perfect... I used carfax.com and it came up with no problems recently... just normal maintenance.. oil etc... im heavily considering an audi now when i wasnt recently but ive heard some are lemons with nonstop problems and others are perfect. Its a hit or miss.. but i also probably wont find a car with that low mileage. Im not sure if i should go for it cuz its a great deal and risk having problems later on... i go to school in the middle of nowhere.. if i have problems im fucked.

well if you get a lemon, jack up the price you bought it for, clean it up a bit, sell it under a fake name, and go buy something else hahahaha. i've never had any problems with audi's and i really love their cars. i think they make some of the best vehicles out there in my opinion. and if you need it serviced i'd gladly go under the hood for you. i've never personally owned an audi, but i know from family members and friends who have owned them that they are great cars, and i'd love to have one of my own someday. i asked my friend's dad who's been a mechanic for 40 years and knows his shit about his thoughts on audi. and he said "they make a pretty badass ride... still can't beat a corvette though" (yeah he's a redneck) the best way to look at an audi is like this: it's like a subaru, but with heated seats and cupholders that can expand. and it's a lot roomier, plus the interior doesn't feel like plastic.

I drive an A6. No real problems with it other than, for awhile, the engine check light was on for no reason. Ended up bringing it to a mechanic to turn the light off since they wouldn't let me pass the smog check test with the light on. It was the strangest thing.

Other than that, I love it. Quattro is awesome, interior is gorgeous, and you have a much better connection with the road than a Lexus or Mercedes. I bought mine used and it came fully loaded--going from a standard Toyota sound system to a full Bose setup was joygasmic.

Honestly, Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes all have maintainence issues--none of the German luxury makers are that great in that regard. If you want a very low maintainence luxury car, get yourself a Lexus IS300. If you want a driver's car, get an Audi or a BMW, you can't go wrong with either. I personally think the Audi interior and exterior look much better than the BMW (and most car magazines agree), and while the BMWs have better engines, Quattro sealed the deal for me. The thing has a death-grip on the road. I do not like Mercedes. They handle stiffly and you feel very insulated from the road (especially in the S-classes). They are nice passenger cars, but you can get a better driver's car.

That's a great deal. Assuming that the seller isn't selling you a song, I'd be all over that like Michael Jackson on Haley Joel Osment.

Well I don't nessicarily like the trips to Wal-Mart and you don't want to be the designated driver on a thursday, friday or saturday night. :kekeke:

But aside from that I wouldn't bring anything up there other than an SUV given the whole "Artic Shithole" motif of the greater Binghamton area. But it's probably a good deal as you should just have a car in general.

Just make sure to get tires on the thing that are designed for driving in severe weather.

and i really wish i had taken a picture of the S4 i had seen but it was a red S4 with the front and rear silver rings painted black. and the car itself was modded (the hood was open and inside there were dual cold air intakes, a supercharger, and based on what the owner had told me new headgaskets, camshafts, and headers with cat back dual exhaust.) and a license plate that read "BMWhat?" as that car could kick pretty much any BMW's ass.

And Audi drivers don't have nearly as bad a rep as BMW drivers ;)

Heh... the seller doesnt want to pay insurance on 2 cars.. hes a guy in his 50ish... retired and hes owned the car for 2 years and only put 8k miles on it... not worth it for him so he just wanted to unload it... they didnt want to go through any bullshit and wanted an easy deal etc.. we worked down the price to $13,500 from around $14,000 and i know its worth alot more.. it comes almost fully loaded... zion headlights, sunroof, heated seats, etc with the v6 2.8... its silver.... heres a good mock up.....

Is it worth it even though it might have problems in the long run?

Syringe,... i dont plan on bringing the car out partying... but its useful for driving home on the weekends, going home, having it at home or over the summer, driving to syracuse or cornell, or not being binghamtons bus system bitch.

Well, the problem with Audis is that they depreciate very quickly in price. As you're doing, it's better to buy it used and cheap when most of the price has been chopped off. Don't expect to get much for it when you sell it in several years, even if you've kept it in great shape.

I wanted to get either a BMW 330i or 530i for my current car, but once I drove the Audi, I was sold =) I've had the car for almost 4 years now, and I still love driving the highway with it.

I'd definitely spring for the A4. I'm fairly tall and I drove friends around a lot in college so the A6's extra space was good for me, but I admit that the A4 is a more fun car to drive.

As an aside, the RS6 is quite possibly the only dream four-seater (that or the S8) I might want over a Maserati Coupe.

for me it's always been the audi S4 that i love. they may not be the best of the best from audi, but those cars have always held such high regard and deep admiration from me it's not even funny. i can spot one in a crowd and will instantly gravitate towards one. and when i hear that engine i get a shiver down my spine. i love those things

Last I checked, Audi tests its cars in Greenland during the winter storms and in the Sahara during the summer.

yeah all sorts of car companies go up there. it's where jaguar developed their ESP system. and the quattro all wheel drive would really help with the cold weather, and snow. that grip they have on the road and the ability to deliver up to 65% of the engine's power to one single tire will really help you power through things.
