I picked up Killzone when it came out last November and, at the time, I had some major issues with the controls. I really liked the overall design and art dircetion of the game but the way the analog sticks were mapped really hampered my enjoyment of the game (I used to having my move/strafe on the left stick and turn/look on the right). I was turing when I wanted to strafe, strafing when I wanted to turn and I couldn't aim for shit with my right thumb (again, I'm used to aiming with my left) all compounding to make the game almost unplayable for me. After a week and a half of trying to get used to Killzone's controlls I found that when I switched to games like Halo 2 and Thirteen I was all out of whack on their controlls. Long story short, I sold off Killzone.

Within the last few weeks I really had a desire to give KZ another try to see if I could actually play it. So I picked up another copy this past Monday and gave it another try. Much to my suprise I fell right into the controlls. They felt like they were second nature. I really don't know what happened in the 6 months since I last played it but now I don't have any problems with the way the sticks are mapped. I never changed the stick layout from my usual in any of the other console FPS' but somehow I've adapted to the Killzone layout.

So, now that I can actually play this game I really enjoy it. Everything except the whole action button thing (something I hope they fix in Killzone 2). I actually like it more that Halo and Halo 2 for the art direction alone. There's just something more enjoyable about taking on a human foe over some alien species.

Meh, I'm rambling now.

Nah, not rambling. The whole alien thing was what I hated most about Halo. Nothing kills the seriousness (as serious as games go) of a good fragfest like some retarded little alien running around screaming.

I to was thrown off by Killzone's controls at first but I started playing it again like a couple weeks later and completely fell in love with the game and was glad that there was finally a fps game that I really liked playing( Halo 1 & 2 bored me to tears ).

After seeing the trailer of the new Killzone from E3 I fired it up again to help ease the wait for the new one, I'm sure Merc will be here sooner or later to show his love for KZ.

Wait, I never played KillZone, but are you guys telling me that there's no option to play the 'right way' for KillZone? You HAVE to play assbackwards?

If so that is the biggest crock of shit I have ever come to know. That's like not putting in an option to play Inverted on FPS games, it's just inane.

It's not "ass backwards", you still move with the left thumbstick. My problem was the fact that strafe was mapped to the left stick and turn was mapped to the right. That part is backwards to what I use in every other FPS (I use the legacy setup in Halo and Halo 2).

You do have to spend some time getting used to Killzone's controls to be effective though.

lmao, Wow I was seriously just about to start a topic about this VERY situation. After renting the game and being really impressed with it, I finally snagged a copy and have been playing it like crazy the past 3 days. I love it, and I have no idea why people complained about the controls.

My only gripe is that I wish the game maintained a constant framerate, sometimes it feels like I'm slogging through mud, whereas Halo/Halo 2 stays pretty smooth throughout.

Oh, so what you;re saying is that YOU use the backwards way.

OK. Wow. was gonna say.. damn. I don't know how you people do it man. A girl I know likes the 'jumpy' setting in halo. wtf? To each their own I guess.

*Yeah I had the same problem and even went nuts on these boards when I first encountered the play control jerky response. Which led to the Sniper Rifle being more or less useless... I take that back... it is useless except in the situations where it's a part of the story and you have no choice but to use it. But like you Mike, I gave it another shot about a week or so later (not 6 months later) and decided I wasn't letting no freckin' video game beat me much less have wasted the original $59.00 price tag.

Got into the groove, over compensated for the horrid jerky controls, knowing my rifle fire is balls on accurate in most cases, but let it go. The game ended up rocking my world indeed. I'm giddy like a 14 year old boy about to be sucked off by his hot 34 year old math teacher for KILLZONE 2, and is primarily the reason I've decided to make the jump to PS3 after I'd said I was done with gaming into the next gen. ---So much for that!

Has anyone taken this game online? I'd be eager to see how well it plays, considering how fun it is playing solo with bots on.

I'll agree that the sniper rifle is inexplicably ruined, but I think the rest of the weapons feel downright awesome.

Try playing every single console FPS since Goldeneye using the same control layout and then try to adapt to the way Killzone's thumbsticks are mapped then you'll see where my gripe was coming from.

That was about 6 months ago, now I have no problem with the controls.

Wait, it has online play? Oh damn I'll have to buy this real soon!

Please tell me you can invert the stick...

PS: I HATE Halo and Halo 2, the multiplayer over live rocks my world unfortunately.

doesnt everyone use left = move for/bac + strafe lef/right right = look up/down and turn lef/rig???

thats what i use in killzone and halo2.. (plus every other fps)..

yeah this game rocks except for two things.

1. its on the ps2 so it has a shocking frame rate on occasions
2. its not on xbox so i cant play link with my mate and have to play splitscreen or fork out for cables+modems, etc....

Euro versions = censored, except for the UK version.
So what's missing? Did they cut all the profanity, tone down the violence?

The game came out with two ratings in some Euro countries such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland, etc., there are 16+ and 18+ versions available, and AFAIK, there's way less profanity/violence in the 16+ ones, dunno about any more details since I don't own a PAL copy of the game.

Fuck video game censorship.
