Technical stuff: problems seem to come from multilayer games, they have to be patched individually to work. Patches for most popular games will be available out of box on the 20GB HDD of the X360.

Financial stuff: nvidia will be paid royalties to allow emulation of its GPU by ATI chipset. That s funny considering it s directx stuff :) It seems that microsoft wants perfect emulation.

On a related note, Microsoft has ceased ordering NVIDIA GPUs as of the 2nd quarter of this year, and there are rumors that the supply of regular XBox systems will be drying up as we get closer to the launch of the XBox 360 . . . which will help Microsoft move more of the new systems, and not have the old XBoxes cut into their sales. It will be VERY interesting to see if the XBox 360 is as easily modded as the original XBox was, and how good a ROMz system it will ultimately be . . . because if it isn't good for that, chances are the old XBox systems will remain in high demand well after the launch of the new system.

Nice theory...

Never thought of that...

I'm wondering if the 360 could be cracked?

Well, it might be hard to add a large HDD [to the 360] since these are specially made for the system...

if MS has anything to do with the design, it can be busted wide open.

Aren't they using laptop HDD's?

If so, it'll just be more expensive to get a bigger one.

If someone cracks it, and the 360 uses a laptop drive, you could buy one of these and run an external hard drive setup.

The X360 has 3 USB2.0 ports, you can always use USB HDDs - just like they did with the slim PlayStation2.

I don't think M$ was to thrilled about the bawkz being used as a rom whore machine. After all, they're losing money on each sale, and if it's just being used as a rom machine, they're not going to make up cash with software sales.

I really don't think that cracking the 360 will be an easy task - they'll see to that. Eventually, it will be done, but I'm betting it will be much tougher than the original bawkz.

About the backward compatibility thing ... well, frankly it sounds pretty troubling. If each online game has to be handled individually, you can bet they'll cut corners with games that most people don't consider mainstream (i.e. SFAC :crying: ). And I'm guessing that, in turn, will alienate many and have them running toward the PS 3. M$ better get this backward compatibility thing right, or they'll be left in the stepchild category with Nintendo like they were in the previous generation. They'll need to have all their ducks in a row if they want to have a real shot at the top spot, and I'm betting that if this issue doesn't get resolved that they'll suffer for it, big time.
