I think the only time "detroiters" go downtown is for that gay ass techno festival that europenis throw because Detroit started techno or some crazy shit.
in fact the massive suburbia north of Detroit is referred to as "Metro Detroit Area"
I bet 90% of the people you meet that claim they're from Detroit are probably from West Bloomfield/Farmington Hills

Shit homies, I lived in Detroit on Woodward and Warren, 2 blocks east of Cass corridor, for almost 2 years. Like hell nobody lives in Detroit, me and the gangbanging nigs, that's all foo!

the only real arcade in metro detroit is golf and games "butterflies" on 13? & van dyke i havent been there in a while but we used to roll there before we hit up the bars in canada back in the pre 21 days. the place has a few rooms for arcade games. one is full of retro with the side wall full of fighting games in presentation style cabs. the outer room is for the big daytona, sega gt, house of the dead, DDR games. then theres the pool hall with something around 50 pool tables.
There was one arcade called "Galaxy" between 12 &13 mile on Gratiot across the street from Macomb Mall in Roseville. I am not sure if it is still open though because I haven't been there in a while.
With regards to the above posts, the "Metro Detroit Area" is the area consisting of Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland county. Detroit is located in Wayne County.
The City of Detroit, unfortunately, has had some horrible leadership as well as an on- going racism problem for the last 30 years. It is amazing to think that 30 years ago a city with a population of over 2 million people, now has a population of less than 900k. I have lived in the Detroit area my entire life (although not for much longer) and can honestly say that Detroit is most often unfairly judged. I go downtown quite often and have never had one problem. The downtown area has improved quite a bit in the last 5 or 6 years, but still has a long way to go. The real dangerous parts are the surrounding residential areas in the city which have been terribly neglected by the corrupt city council and mayor, and as a result has over 8k abandoned homes. It saddens me actually, because the city screams potential and still shows some signs of the greatness it once had. However, because of the corrupt government and bitter racist overtones that still remain in the suburbs and city, it will be a long time (if ever) before Detroit will grow to the point where I will consider it a metropolis again. Oh well, such is life. Finally, with regard to "New Detroit," that would never fly. People in the metro Detroit area, for the most part, are fanatics in a lot of repect (especailly, cars and SPORTS). No matter how bad the city is, renaming or building another to replace it would be throwing away hundreds of years of history, so that just won't fly. The reason why the suburbs grew so much is because after the riots, Mayor Young (prior mayor who was a blatant racist) basically told all non-African American people to leave the city. Those who left closed their shops and factories and took their money with them, resulting in many lost jobs. Thus, it was not something people wanted to do, but were forced to do. Anyway, for those who are intersted, you should take a look at some pre 1967 Detroit pictures and post 1967 Detroit pictures. I think you will be quite shocked.
