Modding a NES/SNES pad for a pc

I've seen a few guides on how to do it. but whats the best way?

I'd prefer not to damage the dear pad maybe, I've seen some it just plugs into.. koll

anyone know anything or had experiences?

the first mod i ever did was a snes pad to lpt port one. iirc it only worked with zsnes and wasn't really worth it.

There are instructions for NES, SNES, genesis, and many other console to parallel port included in the documentation for the linux joytick-parallel port kernel module.

Not sure if there are any XP drivers.
