How good of a port is Metal Slug 4/5 (PS2) from the AES/MVS original?

Very curious to know :)

If possible, please comment on the differences (or lack of them ;) in categories like : graphics, sound/music, gameplay, etc. and any features that are ps2 only..

Non Categorized general impressions of the differences between MS 4/5 (ps2) and the neo versions are welcomed as well! :D

The PS2 versions are better of course. The music OMG!!!!!!11111111111
I highly doubt the Neo•Geo can output that type of music. It just
changes the whole experience for me.

Four feels more fun to me than five does.

Music is still "Midi file-ish." But fits all the same.

Metal Slug 4's music cuts out at transitions. The intro is nice though, and there's a much better feeling for plot in four than in five from what I've seen so far.
Found Laser shot in later levels of 4. (Was it added to the port like when AgeTec added it to MSX?)

Metal Slug 5 has an odd atmosphere. (My first impression playing it at all)
There's no intro to give you a clue to the plot beforehand, but the manual makes up for that a bit. The slugs feel really odd; as the enemy's are using the traditional slugs and you end up with some really weird options in the old tank's place.

And there you have my $0.02.
I want change.

Just played it today on a Sony Wega in Component and it the colors looked kind of washed out.

Also the sound was kind of tinny sounding as well, most likely because they compressed the sound files.

However, these are rants from a cart purist, so I must admit I am somewhat biased. Overall, everything seemed intact, the game HAS blood (thank god).

Although the ports are not perfect (none are really IMO), its pretty much as close as you're going to get without buying the carts, and for forty dollars, you can't beat it.

I bought MS3 just to see how it was. It was 100% identical. Sound and everything. Not better, still the awesome game that it is. I am looking forward to the European Release of MS4&5. That way I'll conserve the carts hehe

I didnt think the ports were done that well.
No extras and it doesnt really play like the originals to me.
These games are ok at best and not worth much more than a free rental to me.

I only have the port of MS3, and the background scroll has those weird wrinkles in it. Great alternative for people without the real hardware....I guess. Viva MVS!

So you would say the same for the AES versions?

Still, after seeing stuff like Training School in X for the PS1, it makes you wish there were NGCD ports for those two.

There's this thing called 'dignity' you can be born with it,
earn it or feel it when playing a real arcade game on a real
arcade system. There's another thing called suckers, these
are the types of people who snkp sell ports to years after
such games were beloved by real arcade fanatics. Suckers
usually don't have the dignity of knowing what it feels like
to play the real thing.

How is MS3 on the XBOX? I don't play bootlegged garbage.

There's also a thing called 'money', which not everyone has enough of to buy a fucking Neo-Geo and the hundred dollar games on it.

While I can't argue with you about the games being expensive...you can't get mad over people making fun of non-neo geo owners on a neo geo forum, ESPECIALLY about ports on crappier systems

i feel bad for you. :emb:

i usually cant stand most ports because there is a noticeable difference in the resolution the games run in. i prefer to see the neo's pixels over a filter, or odd looking edges due to the wrong resolution.

either way, i'd never put someone down for buying a port. and the xbox ports of the fighters immeasurably surpass the originals due to the inclusion of online play.
now if 02/03 would only come out.
