I'm kind of into Pain Killer right now, and Doom 3 on the Box is pretty good too.

What do you guys think? Oh, and you can leave out any mention of Deus Ex.

What the hell is this doing here?

By "shooter" one usually understands "little overpowered ships fighting against hundreds of waves of enemies filling the screen with bullets".

shmups and fps have no links. At all.

Amano, I agree.

Meanwhile, let me help you out here by moving this thread to Unrelated.

Guilty Pleasure, as Tristesse pointed out, the All about Shooters forum is meant for discussions about horizontal/vertical arcade-ish shmups, not FPS games. Other than in Unrelated, some good FPS threads pop up in Online Gaming from time to time, so you may want to check out this forum as well.

To be on topic (mainly since I've never really been to the shump forum):

Halo 2 (the only non PC FPS worth mentioning IMO)
FarCry
Doom 3
Half-Life 2 (just beat it)
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (just starting it)
UT2k4

That's just about the past year or so. I still haven't gotten around to Painkiller, which is sad since I did love the demo. Just that I have no time to play the few games I already own, let alone going back to ones I've had to skip over.

Oh and the expansions for Doom 3 and HL2 look awesome, I just haven't gotten to playing them yet since I'm only starting Riddick now and I refuse to buy stuff when I've already got a great game I'm already playing.

Why isn't this in All About Shooters?

You fool, first person shooters aren't shooters. Kinda like how decaffeinated coffee isn't really coffee.

on topic....

Doom3 is ok, slow paced and the multiplayer isn't really fun
Halo2 = multiplayer bliss
Goldeneye = sheer classic, taught the world how a FPS should be made.

Translated perfectly, better even IMO (but I'm a mouse and keyboard whore). I think the PC version was worlds betterall around though, and the developers commentary is the icing on the cake.

Doom 3 multiplayer is fun, you just have to get good at it. At least on PC...

I've have to try Riddick on PC then.

Halo 2 is an embarrasment. That's not a good game. Halo is the good one. Halo kicks ass. UT2K4 was pretty good, but it got old, though I havent played it online, i have the cracked version, so no online play for me. HalfLife 2 was bad ass up until the ending, and it never told you what the hell was going on. :spock:

Doom 3 was disappointing. It was like they tried to make a game about being in the dark. No shooting, no fun, just a black screen on your monitor or TV. blech. Riddick was pretty bad-ass. I never finished it though. I never played FarCry enough to judge it.

You can play UT2k4 online cracked. I bought it and gave the cracked version to half the state.

Ive not played Riddick, bt those gfx to me look next gen.

Promise that this "era" has life.

Looking as Sega's crime on streets (or whatevers its called 360) doesnt look that far different.

Having just bought Doom 3 today and played about 4 hours of it, I do think its pretty good fps, i think the weight of expectation for the 10 years people were aiting for it to appear has lessened its impact but i do find it a superior fps, now ive just got half life 2 to play (its sucks just having the x box nowadays)s.

anyway

1. Goldeneye
2. Half Life
3. Gunman Chronicles (Multiplayer)
4. Doom 3
5. Doom (multiplayer)

Blasphemy!

Deus Ex is one of my favorite games EVER developed. You can do so many things, there are so many paths, 3-4 endings, and has a large strategy element to it. I give Deux Ex a 9.8/10

my favourite fast paced shooter is Thunder Force IV (but with kuddos to some parodius fast levels)

sorry,

fps, nn...
Half Life 2 for its technical qualities

FarCry for the wonderfull scenery, the great immersion and for making me play the most on a demo before it got released (i certainly played as much the demo as a lot of full games i tried)

Call Of Duty (but keep away from the expansion) for the great direction and the variety of action (road chase, ambush, canon-fodder, infiltration...)

Raven Shield because it is great in gameplay

Quake, for its unique mood i hope to see revived in Call Of Ctuhlu

and finaly blood, played the hell of this game in multiplayer back in 97 and still got found memories of the dynamite throwing, the voodoo doll, the spray flamethrower... hmm love it :)
