Hi ! Try to open the control panel and you may see the degauss button under the monitor on right side.

Degauss buttons are usually located in the PCB bay alongside the volume control and test buttons.

Thats where it is on the astros anyway. I do have a impress but I won't be home until Wednesday so I cannot tell you until then unfortunately. I have my own problems with my impress at the moment :(

BTW, its not located in the control panel.

I recommend you unplug the impress from the wall socket and leave it for 10 minutes then plug it in again, it may degauss when you start it up again.

I tried that already. It seems like it's getting slightly better, I'm gonna wait a few days, then buy a degaussing coil.

Down in the PCB area, all I see is test and service, and mono volume.

In that case the only place it is likely to be is on the PCB itself. That is located at the rear behind the metal plate. There is high voltage there so be careful not to touch anything around the neck of the CRT.

To get a good look in there I recommend taking off the front so light comes in from both sides.

To do this open the control panel. Deep down the back of the CP there are some philips screws (do not unscrew that goldish plate its a waste of time). I think there are 4 screws. Once you have unscrewed them that bit of plastic that covers the RGB Brightness pots will pull up and the whole lot will come off. You might need to unscrew the starbits at the top as well. Be careful when taking it off as the speaker connector is up there as well. This is a molex connector and you get that to disconnect by pinching it.

Once its off you should be able to see if there are any buttons on the PCB as light will pass through both sides.

This is all standard stuff, as you would be required to do this to rotate the monitor if you so desired. Once the front is off you can see the big bolts which attach the chassis to the frame. Any button that degausses will be clearly marked.. Don't press anything that is unmarked as you may cause damage.

Once your at this stage you will be able to clearly see all the components inside the cabinet with a flashlight and you accessibility is made 200% better.

The monitor is pretty heavy so don't go trying to move it on your own.

Be careful when reseating the front cover as sometimes the plastic covering the pot calipers for the CRT controls (RGB brightness etc) will hit them and bend/break them. Its really best done with 2 people.

When and if you do this you should know everything about your impress :D

Slightly off topic, but since we're discussing the Capcom Impress...Does anyone know if the Impress will supply -5vdc to power a Popeye pcb?

Thanks,

If the normal "power up" automatic degaussing does not fix the purity error, its unlikely that a degauss button, if it has one, will. (It is only a secondary degauss circuit to degauss the crt if the cab has been shifted whilst warm)

You may need to do it manualy with a wand.
