GBA SP or DS?

Ok, after playing through most of the training missions on Advance wars (thanx to teh bawks) I've decided that I need a GBA. However... since the DS plays GBA games I'm left wondering if I should just get a DS or save some cash and just get an SP. While the obvious choice for some may be the DS I seriously can't see myself playing any of the DS games because so far they just don't appeal to me. At this point the SP is looking very good but I still don't know yet.

Opinions please?

I love my SPs. No burnt pixels, great battery life, decent speaker, very little ghosting, and a nice, small design.

Nothing on the DS interests me, and nothing coming out would justify a purchase for me. I already have CotM and AoS, and the new Castlevania looks like more of the same.

Like you, none of the current DS games really grab me. But I still think the eventual correct choice will be DS. When Castlevania DS comes out, I'll want it. So if I had neither, I'd go for a DS now.

The only thing that bothers me about DS is not being able to play GBA link games, like Mario Bros. Playing 4-player Mario is better than any other handheld experience to date. But if you don't have 2 or 3 friends with GBAs and link cables, it doesn't come into play, so go ahead and get DS.

That's assuming (and I can't remember now if it is) DS is backwards compatable all the way back to Gameboy Color. Because I need my Bionic Commando.

No, the DS only plays DS\GBA games.

this shouldn't be a problem for me since I don't have ANY GB stuff. But I've heard from several people that the GBA games look much better on the DS. But what about the screens? What screen shows what when I'm playing a GBA game on the DS? Somebody explain this to me.

Last portable I bought was a NGPC and I just can't ignore the Advance wars and Fire Emblems any more. Plus I've been so bored at work It'll be nice to whip it out and play a couple of games. Plus since the clowns in my office are so dim I'll probably be able to take it to a meeting and they'll think i'm taking notes on it or something...

You can pick which screen you want (top or bottom) in the DS menu.

unless you want to link up with other people for multiplay or if you want to play older gameboy games i would prolly go with a ds for the better screen and future games.

I would probably get the DS. It's only a little bit more. Surely at some point we will see some killer games for it.

That meteos game for instance looks pretty good.

Advance Wars has been one of my favorites for quite a while too. Either SP or DS would do for you well, I have both. I actually play the SP more because it is much more portable, BUT one thing to consider seriously is the fact that DS Wars is coming out later this year for the DS (surprise, surprise). I can't wait for this release. This and the release of Castlevania DS will gain my DS much use.

Bottom line is GBA games never looked better than on DS

Whatever else anyone says to sway your decision one way or another, the only thing you need to consider is what this fine gentleman said.

'nuff said.

Playing Gba games on a Ds doesnt feel right at all for me. It feels uncomfatable on a good point the screen is amazing for the Ds especially on games like Final fight

I'm actually impressed by the GBPlayer. Just got one lastnight.
a) It works with the Lilo And Stitch game (that game refuses to work with the ds, maybe it's a mix of GBA/GB color or something)
b) It works with the eReader (just having some fun and "poof" there it is. I should probably plug it into Animal Crossing and dump the island on there and then see if I can play it on my GBPlayer. :P

I'm almost tempted to pick up a second GC and try the link cable. :P

Get the SP because you can play it lying down

I mostly play my GBA when I'm going to sleep and the DS is too wide, where the SP is perfect, the SP is also much more portable and a nicer machine, the games just don't quite look as good on the screen. The DS is rather large.

Well, thanks to you guys i've made my decision....

Went and picked up a DS this morning. I got MP: Hunters and Polarium. Not bad so far. I'm still figuring out Polarium but so far I think it'll keep me busy for a while. I'll probably pick up Advance wars/Advance wars 2 sometime later (probably have to hit ebay). Anyway, thanks again for the help guys!

If you want something kinda quirky, yet still very fun and playable, I suggest Yoshi Touch and Go.
