What do you see when there are pictures? Are you getting red Xs or what? Can't really help if I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. Can you do a screen cap and post the pic somewhere?

And if you have Firefox, what the hell are you doing using that other shit browser?

The images might be PNG, for some reason I've heard that some versions of IE don't properly load PNG files.

Well, to be honest I don't really see why you should go to the bother of getting explorer fixed if firefox is running fine. You could try setting explorer back to it's default settings as a first point of call, if your using XP you can try a particual reinstall using your install disc without losing any of your settings or programs, you also could give some anti spyware and anti virsus software a go as well. Why didn't I say this eariler? I hoped someone else would and I wanted a +1 :smirk:

i dont really like firefox. just a personal preference thing.

sites i have been visiting for years suddenly wont load pics. in the desktop thread for example i dont see any of the desktop capture sometimes. othertimes i see half or at the moment for example its all there. there are no red x's just the pics seem to be loading up forever.

firefox on the other hand loads everythign up fine. this has been going on about a week. spybot and adaware turned up nothing.

i hope i was clearer this time.... ;)

Good. Just use Firefox instead. Things seem to work out better that way.

If you're running XP, reinstall XP Service Pack 2. This will "reinstall" the "new and improved" Internet Explorer for you. See if that fixes it.

Do you remember the last time it worked? You can also do a system restore to a point you knew it worked.

I'd say check to make sure IE is set to show images, but it sounds like it is since you get images some times.

If none of the above work, you should also try using Microsoft Anti Spyware Beta. I've found that it picks up some things the other programs don't and vice versa.

I love how actual trained MS help / technical people can't give a solid answer either, as nobody knows how windows works or operates

its always 'reinstall this'

'uninstall this and put it back on'

'did a random checkbox turn itself off?'

'install Microsoft's userland level botch-fixing tool to fix kernel level faults'

joke - such a joke.

Slerch's suggestion is the best, but really, I'd consider just using firefox.

LMAO, like Linux stuff doesn't break on it's own or isn't buggy, or isn't mind-altering-ass-backwards in how you have to "configure" it for things to work properly.

Know why I'm in windows on my laptop again? The cordless phone cuts out my wireless signal. In Linux I have to reboot to get it working again, that's right REBOOT. Stopping and restarting my wireless card in Linux won't let it re-scan and find the access points. I've rescanned manually, it won't detect it.

XP pick it right back up when the phone hangs up.

Does this mean that Linux is a joke?

It aint my fault you set it up wrong :)

at least you know whats going on in the OS, its terse because of low bandwidth ssh terminals, stupid. any problems with the OS can be solved without formatting, which you windows users seem to love every 6 months, whatever is done can usually be reversed, because you were the jackass to break it in the first place.

heh, newbies, gotta love em.

That's just it, it's not setup wrong, Gentoo just doesn't want to work properly.

I've setup wireless cards in Linux way back when Prism cards were out and it was an extra PITA. I've done ndiswrapper, I've done naitive drivers, and I've done Intels closed firmware versions of stuff, across Red Hat, Debian, Ubuntu, and Gentoo, this is the first time the OS will not re-scan and pickup the network.

Don't pin this screw up on me. ;)

BTW, my main gaming machine has been running the same XP install for 2 years now. :p

Yes Kernow, Windows does a lot of things wrong. Unfortunately the world uses Windows. It's a fact of life.

If a person wants to play a PC game without using Windows EMU of some sort (and pray it works), then Windows is the only way to go. You could always hope for a Linux port, but that only happens on the biggest name games, and even then you have to wait 6-24 months for it.

Yes, Linux is more stable. Yes, Linux does a lot of things right. However, Linux doesn't allow people to play games, and since Windows is also what is used in most corporate desktop worlds, it's what people know. Joe Consumer doesn't want to log into a super user account to install software. They also don't want to deal with command line interfaces, because if they did, wouldn't we all still be running GUIless?

I like Linux a lot, but because 99.99% of all programs are written for a Windows OS, it's what I run on my personal machine, and Linux is what I run as a hobby machine. Fact of life. If you can get me a fully working copy of Sound Forge 7 or 8 running on a Linux base, then I would switch, but not before.

And the real problem with Windows is IE integration. Did you see the news about IE 7? It'll be an XP only thing. So they support Windows 2000 until 2010, but expect you to use IE 6 SP1 for the next 5 years? Sorry, MS, but trends change, standards change and unfortunately their software does not. I guess they'll offer IE 7 SP6.6.6.6.6.6.6 for W2K when they realize people with 2K are tired of their non standard covering asses.

edit- and the only time I reinstalled XP was when my HDD crapped out on me. Same machine I've had for 3 years. Thanks. Of course, I'm not like the average stoopid user that downloads free software, kills my machine with Spy Ware and so on.

Try my suggestions above and see if that corrects the issue.

I'd install all the 'packs' you can, thats what they are there for after all, to fix problems.

You mean like all those updates that get downloaded when I do an apt-get or emerge?
