What type of controller are you sacrificing? If you can post a hires pic, I can point out where the ground is.

PS. MadCatz early model 6 button pads for DC are the mose easily sacrificable controllers I've ever seen - they even have holes already where you need to solder wires through)

those two copper ovals beside the VMU slot are ground. You might not want to use a first party DC controller for this though. The L and R have a bit of lag on them. Your best bet is a Mad Katz pad.

I wired it up the same way....didn't get any lag. Gave up and got an MGCD after trying to mod my VGA box though :blow_top:

Sounds like you blew the fusable resistor in the controll port.

Very easy...

You don't need to remove the port and desolder it though. I just cut the old resistor out and put in a new one..

I agree with using the MadKatz controllers, but I believe this official pad hack works without any lag: http://www.geocities.com/armad1ll0/images/Tutorials/Sega_DC_PCB.jpg

I've never tryed it, but if you wire it up this way, there is supposed to be no lag.

I've never had any lag on mine, but thanks for the info -- if I ever have to sacrifice more DC pads, that'll be a great help, 'cause it's easier to find sega pads than early madcatz pads nowadays!

Do you have a GameCrazy in NV? I see Dreamcast MadKatz controllers there all the time in the California Bay Area.

Hi everyone,

I need help again. I have already wired the controller but when i connect it to my arcade cab buttons there is no reaction. I would like to know if anyone can give me a more extensive idea on how to connect the wires to the DC control. Also I know that HED5 and HED6 are L and R, but for L and R, do i need to connect ground? Where is the ground for L and R? Thanks

We do, but as I work for GameStop, I'm not legally allowed to set foot in a GameCrazy store.

(but I haven't seen them there in a long time, anyway -- the last place I've seen them is an EB about a year and a half ago, and I cleaned them out)

That is all.

I don't care what's been posted, but this is a fact: The original Dreamcast pad's L and R buttons lag regardless. I've tried all methods to wire them and it still lags. If you say it doesn't, you're not hardcore enough to tell.
