PS pad to SuperGun questions

I've moded allot of pads and made a few joysticks to work with my PS2, I'm wanting to build a little converter box so I can use it on my Super Gun. I was wondering if this setup would work.

would this work?

Basically what I would do is get a PS plug and wire it into a PS encoder, putting the encoded signal going in from the pad to the encoder on the hacked up pad and then hopefully the decoded signal going out to my super gun.

I don't know too much about how controller compression works other then the fact you have to wire a signal through the encoder for the system to be able to read the signal. I'm not sure if this would work because it would be backwards instead of forwards.

If this wouldn't work, is there any way to "decode" the signal so it could be hooked up to a standard jamma/ mvs board?

Thanks for the link, I might end up buying one. I'm still kind of curious as to weather or not my particular design for running the signal backwards through the encoder would work or not.

Well, it would work as long as you manage to decode the signal. I doubt you can use a PS controller for that, as they IC in them only encodes, you would have to build a circuit from scratch and you need some advanced electronics knowledge for that. Check http://www.gamesx.com/ for some more info. You would need to understand and know what to do from this pin-out:

http://pinouts.ru/data/playstation_9_pinout.shtml

The easiest alternative is to directly mod internally the PS controller by soldering a DB15 cable straight to suitable connections for each button in the controller pcb, but if you do so possibly the controller will no longer work in the PS.

About buying the adaptor, it is designed for working in an AES, but it has trouble working in a supergun, even if has a DB15 with neo pin-out (including 5V), due to the fact the adaptor is designed for a very deep socket, while the regular DB15 used for superguns is shorter. It might still work if you press it hard.

Thanks for the info Amano Jacu, appricate it. I'm not quite advanced enough electronicly to build my own circut. However, with the adapter would work really well, seeing that I would not be useing them a cable but breaking them open, and just adding them as controler ports on my supergun.

I just didn't want to be paying 19.95 for someone else to butcher up a 4 dollar playstation controler. Thanks again for the info :D

Where would you get the PS2 controller ports to put on the supergun or the decoder box? I would love for someone to sell a cheap decoder for Saturn pads and for a source for the connectors to become available.

Not for decoding, but I think the easiest source of controller ports is extension cables, or gutted consoles.

the psx to Neo adaptor works on a properly wired SG, but it does indeed have to be pushed right in, its a bit hit or miss, sometimes it will work fine, sometimes it will just stop working!

Sort of on topic here, I was wondering if you could convert a pair of the PS2 saturn pads to work with a super nova controller port (db 25). Please let me know. Thanks,

Matt

I get all my parts from old systems not in use or broken systems. The decoder is the hard part, good luck.
