Does anyone know of any MVS units in the San Francisco Bay Area or vicinity that feature either Strikers 1945 Plus or Ganryu? I would love to try these games out in their full glory to see if the hype is worth it. BTW, anyone interested in Prehistoric Isle 2, check out The Great Entertainer in downtown San Mateo.

Also, anyone, anyone at all, please help me out by letting me know which issue of NeoGeoFreak magazine the below picture appeared in. Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Kale

Hey there, how is Prehistoric Isle 2. I have seen nothing more then a few shots of the title screen. Last time I had a chance to buy it, I was asked $220.... which was way to much for never even seeing the game in play. Any thoughts on it? How does it look?

You can get it for $160 or less. Graphic looks good - a bit slow and not slowdown with screen full of enemies. Still a petty cool game if you have a Supernova or MVS cabinet.

Try Ebay

Nick,

I agree with William. The game is very slow-paced in the tradition of Ghost Pilots. There is just not enough intensity to keep you glued to the screen. The 3-D Blazing Star-like graphics are sub-par compared to other shooters like Radiant Silvergun and Einhander. The power-ups are unimpressive and the cool concept of saving hostages is diminished by the lack of opportunities to do so and the difficulty in retrieving lost souls once you die. The game is also a tad easy compared to other Neo Geo offerings. I would definitely recommend trying it out somewhere before spending this kind of money, especially if anyone is thinking about a conversion. This is why I would love to see what Strikers and Ganryu have to offer to see if they are justified of the $600+ price tag.

Sincerely,

Kale

I have both strikers and ganryu. I liked both ok but the strikers levels played a little quick for me (Much like aero fighters 3 did) and it was not that long or as inventive as a game IMO the end bosses were a little stale for my taste. In homecart mode there is not a menu to speak of.

Ganyru I have only played in MVS mode on my mvs cab but I liked this game. It was a nice change of pace which is refreshing in a neo title every so often. the Dialog got kinda tideous. When you arrived at the end bosses they tended to spout off a bit to long for my taste. Less talk more action. but I like the game and would actually recommend both.

As far as where to play them which is what you are actually asking I do not know other then my house in Friendswood which is a bit of a drive from where you are

Actually Strikers is "almost" the same as Saturn version (I only have Strikers 1945 II for Saturn). Just don't know why ppl wants to shell out big bucks to buy that game. Not very impressive when I played at local supermarket.

Silent Scope is exactly right... Strikers 1945 Plus is identical to Stirkers 1945 II on Playstation and Saturn. I have that game on the PSX, and it was a good shooter, but no where along the lines of a Neo Geo great. Plus, from what I have seen for it, it is identical to the home versions run on the cropped screen mode (which I find annoying). Strikers 1945 Plus is only about $90 these days, but I will stick with Aero Fighters 3 for now. In my opnion it may not look as good, but it is much more fun to play! As for Ganryu, I am kicking myself right now... it just went on ebay for $30 and I did not bid!! grrr, oh well, there will be others.

Oh and thanks all, you have answered a question for me... skip Prehistoric Isle 2

I never really liked what the Neo did with 3D graphics anyway.. they always look so washed out and blocky (except for Pulstar and Blazing Star those were decent, but they could have been hand drawn and still made those games great!)

I think the Round Table Pizza place in Half Moon Bay, California, has an MVS with Strikers plus. Just in case you make it down the coast here.
