Anyway to mod a TV to take S-Video or RGB?

I have quite a few monitors crowding up my cramped dorm room, 2x 20 inch computer monitors for my 3D work flow, a 19 inch Arcade monitor dedicated to playing games with a Japanese SCART connection, and a Toshiba 27 inch DVD/VCR/TV combo deal, a old Samsung GX TV and a few other older tv's with no s-video.

I just absolutely can’t stand composite, it really drives me nuts. So I would like to be able to add a SCART or S-Video connector to one of my TV's. Is this possible or even feasible?

If anyone who has pondered this or knows anything about this could drop me a yes or a no, it would be greatly appreciated.

It is feasible, depends on the jungle IC, some accept/switch rgb in, others do not.

It would be much easier to just get a box to allow you to use S-Video on one of your computer monitors.

I agree bish, however fooling with electronics is one of my hobbies, so if there is something I can do to customise my equipment, I'd jump at the chance.

Tody, I don't suppose there is a website that talks about this kind of stuff at all? I really have no clue with a jungle IC is. It sounds pretty difficult.

If you open up your tv (be very careful here, as there is LOTS OF VERY HIGH VOLTAGE), look at the IC chips around your composite inputs.

Now go to http://www.datasheetarchive.com/ type in the number on the top of several IC chips, when you find one that is for inputting composite signals, look in the datasheet at the pinout and see if the chip also accepts RGB or Y/C (s-video) inputs. If it does, connect your inputs to the pins on the chip for RGB and/or Y/C.

cheers,
-DT

PS- there may be no such chip in your TV or you may not find it, then you are out of luck. There are some places online where you can buy schematics for tv's, these are sold to tv repair shops normally, and the schematics may help you track down what happens to the video signal once it goe sinto your TV.

You can use the japanese arcade monitor by just buying the cable for RGB which is superior to Svideo.
