They exist. I came into one some time ago. It doesn't look quite the same as a real Neo Geo AES console. It plays everything fine, sure, but still...

Yeah, they are out there. The bootleg consoles that I have seen have shoddy workmanship, in other words it's not solidly built like REAL NEO consoles are. I mean, out of all the consoles on the planet, the NEO is the best built, IMO. They are built like a brick shithouse! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">
The "booties" also look off... some even have a greenish tinge to the body.
As for spotting the carts, well that is easier. If the appearance of the box, manual, insert & sticker on the cart doesn't jibe or if the cart looks odd in any way... it's more than likely a fake. Hope this sheds some light on the subject. I haven't seen any fakes in a number of years. The ones I have seen were in NYC Chinatown like 6 years ago. And guess where they came from...? HK. Heh.

Just talked to them, they said they are real consoles and guarantee that, but they are second hand and they're sold out of US consoles. So all they have is jap for $129 + ($46 for me in Canada) the cost of shipping.

With the one I encountered, the words "Neo Geo, Pro Gear Spec, etc..." were in a different font than on a real console, and quite noticably bigger. The reset button was slightly different as well - it was black while the rest of the console has a greyish twinge to it. There was no serial # on the bottom of the console, like real AES systems have. Just the one I encoutnered, though. I wouldn't be surprised if there are different variations of the bootleg consoles, perhaps similar to what Southtown Pimp Daddy was talking about.
