Ok, this is what I know so far

1. Cab started being "touchy" about how I close the coin door, it would reboot the system if I wasn't gentle. Seemed to be alright otherwise, so I didn't worry much.

2. I turned it on this last weekend and got some odd flashing on the screen, and I noticed the credit counters on the control board were flashing on and off as well.

3. Opened the control panel, flipped it on, same deal.

4. Moved some carts around and reseated them all....worked normal.

5. Closed the control panel.... back to flashing we go.

6. Looked inside and finally grounded the 2 green wires that were hanging out before. Its a wood cab so I tried to tie them together and use a screw set in the wood to act as the ground...... still flashing

Thats pretty much were I'm at... I was too hung over to work on it any more than that...but I'm going to mess with it again tonight after work.

It seems like the control panel being open and moving the carts have the biggest effect. To me it seems like a short, but this is my only cab and its the only issue I have had so far. I don't smell anything burning, or hear any popping....but something electrical is going on right?

Yeah I shut my door the other day and it made it reboot or reset......also in your post you said you took the green wires and grounded them to wood :spock: ???? Unless I misunderstood....wood cant be a ground. You would have to ground them to where other green grounds are....even if you made them longer. Check the bottom of the cab and see where the other grounds are......I have a bunch grounded on a metal plate that all the PS stuff is. :glee:

The main cause of intermittent reset, would be a dodgy connection between the 5 volts from the psu to pins 3,4,c and d on the mobo, check that the board connections are not toasted, also the jamma/mvs edge connect socket contacts look OK. Opening the door may cause the whole harness to move prompting these reset/ reboot problems.

it was the board connections....oddly enough it also worked with the 4th slot empty. Very odd..but now its rock solid...I can finally close the door with ease.

btw: anyone know where I can get new coin slot lights? not the bulbs but the orange plastic piece. I also was looking for a new plate for around the memory card /head phone jacks. Anyone ?

Oh and about the grounding, everyone said they weren't very import, I just secured them to the wood to make sure they were not hitting anything. I was half right about the cable moving when I shut the door.

That is not a bad idea, the green ground wires from the reader to the mobo are "over designed" imho. Either connect them ideally to some metal work, or otherwise woodwork or wrap insulating tape around the terminals to prevent shorting out.

Half of all those 2 x 60 pin connections are grounded already

Memory Card Sticker/Plate-Who Can Make one?
http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117873&highlight=Memory+Card+Sticker

NOTE:..I made one myself out of sticker/photo paper..(awhile back)

its dedicated, its the MV-4F unit from what I have read.
I'm going to see if I cant create a scalable / clean version of that memory card plate. From the looks of it we still don't have a decent one?

I need to get some other vinyl done at some point...I could see how much it would cost to have some done. It would be just any overlay though, but I'm sure no one would be able to tell other then wackos like us.

Thanks for the links everyone, and the responses in general. I'm glad it was something simple, I hated the thought of having to buy a new MB or something.
