MVS Cab - 2 Slot: Sound Not Working

Its been awhile since I've been around but I have to get this question out here:

My 2-Slot MVS Cab has everything working on it except sound will not play during a game. This cab has the 2 head phone jacks and nothing comes out of them either.

Crazy thing is when I run the Dip Switch 1 ON and go into the Debug Mode and runt he sound test, it works perfect!

So my question is, what could the reason be that sound works during test mode but not during any given game that I have (with 40 different games)? :conf:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you ever seen a Z80 error message show up.

The problem maybe a broken trace around the Z80/YM 2610 processor stages or associated memory.

Obviously evey thing from the input to the YM 3016 DAC is OK for the test mode to work.

More Info

When the volume is adjusted up I do get the slight "air" or speaker noise as you would normally get when you have a speaker with power to it.

Same for headphones in the headphone jack, it gets power, cab makes a kinda "pop" slightly hearing as though the speakers are active and received power on turn on

Third, the sound test mode works perfect for left, right, and center!

This is kinda crazy, I have done nothing to the cab and it happened all the sudden. The Sound Test working throws me off so much as it shows the speakers work, the MVS Board (I'm assuming) works perfectly, and I would think that some 40 MVS Carts didn't all brake at once?

Maybe something with the MVS connector to the Game Carts? :conf:

Make sure no game installed is a boot,it can cause this.(just to add this info)

I'd suggest giving the mobo's connectors a good cleaning..and the edge connector plus harness.
Make sure the jamma Harness is on right and tight..(take off,put back on)

Make sure all pins within the harness are making contact with edge connector..

Try Clearing all the Back-up memory..(it's worth a shot)

Take a Voltage reading of the 12V..

that could cause this sort of problen, as could a broken trace around that area.

I was having the exact same problem with a 2-Slot I got today. Apparently the way the metal cover is situated on my board, the carts tilt backwards very easily -- so they're not exactly straight.

When I look at my board with a cart inserted from a top-down view, I can see there's A LITTLE space behind the cart and none infront of it. I'm guessing the cover is kinda pushing the cart backwards a bit and making it tilt.

Anyway, if it's not standing 100% straight up, I'll get problems ranging from no sound to garbage on the screen.

I plan on loosening thing screws and centering the metal cover around a cart. Hopefully that will help fix my problem.

Hope that helps anyone ^_^

I Tried

I gave everything I can think of a shot. The games just never deliver sound any more. Game comes on, trying just one game in each slot makes no difference, then going into Debug Test Mode, Sound Test works perfectly!

I have a home system with a converter and tried the MVS carts there, sound works great.

Now I'm not sure what I'm gonna do unless someone wants to sell me another board if that really is the problem since:

1. Speakers Work
2. MVS Carts Work
3. Everything in Cab Works

Time to try and locate another board?
