How:Euro Supergun play into NTSC TV?

I'm sure this topic was covered before, but I can't find a thread related.
But hear me out. :)

I recently bought a EURO MAK supergun. It was reasonably cheap, but little did I know this cost me more money than I thought. Here's my problem:

The Supergun only has SCART output. Little did I know about Superguns I went out and bought a PAL>NTSC converter, SCART into Component cable w/ female SCART adapter, and thought that might not solve my video problems. But until today I realize the Supergun might not convert RGB video from a MVS PCB at all. This is an increasingly problem since I have an NTSC TV.

>So is a RGB>NTSC converter is at hand?
>The items mentioned above are obsolete?

Thanks for any info. Still researching on other sites, but thought I should get the oppinions of other members.

Could you give a link to the scart to component converter you have?

We need to know what type of converter you have. There's a possibility that it is just a PAL->NTSC and not RGB->NTSC, that is what you need.
Your supergun most likely doesn't convert the RGB signal from the MVS to anything and just connects it to the scart, as an European scart TV will take that signal directly.

Well if you TV has component you should get this converter here that I use

http://www.highway.net.au/parts/converters/2005.html

It's a Cypruss SCART to YUV converter, works with every board without a hitch.

I have tested one of those...

Very, Very Very Very Nice Product.

Even when Using my 11,000 Serial US AES WITHOUT an RGB mod, it looked as good as Kurtz's Board.

Here's the link to the converter I bought

I'm sure its a PAL>NTSC converter. Bought one of the same thing. Due to my naiveness I wasted even more money than necessary :crying:

Looking into an RGB>NTSC converter. These seem really expensive. I see encoders one ebay go for 100+

Appreciate all this help guys. I'm actually considering a Mas Supergun since my other one hasn't arrived yet, and doubt it will(3 weeks already)
Wouldn't have to deal with this whole RGB>NTSC conversion and expenses.

Thanks arcader. Kind of expensive but still relatively cheap compared to other RGB converter boards. And no solder, or wiring work to do. A+

Its either I recieve my Euro SG and buy a converter, or just sell some crap and buy myself a Mas SG. I don't know if quality of picture will be sacrificed compared to RGB, but at least it comes with 2 nice arcade sticks :glee:

Why are you going for a 'brand name' supergun? Are you trying to save money? I would recommend one of D-Lite's even though it doesn't come with sticks. Superior product in every respect.

As I guessed, you are out of luck, that thing will not be useful for you, it converts PAL composite into NTSC composite, but it doesn't accept RGB scart that is what an European scart supergun outputs. Notice that the RGB signal is universal. it isn't PAL nor NTSC.
You need a RGB->NTSC convertor.

Not a matter of brand name, but just if I'm going to shell out $100+ on a converter I might as well pay $100 for SG+200 more for two nice Sticks.

But the link you gave me is a nice one indeed.:glee: I wouldn't mind getting something like that around the $100 region.

On a side note, I just realized both you Ely13 - and D-Lite are from SF.
Can you tell me if he builds them, or at least has an extra Supergun lying around?

There be no S&H at all. I could just pick it up and get it on same day. :)

Support the Neo community and buy a Neobitz board ;) www.neobitz.com.

If you get one of Dean's superguns, you'll most likely get one with the Neobitz encoder.

Thanks,
Jeff

Dean builds those. It'll cost you a lot more than $100 for the supergun, though.

Thanks for the compliments guys and yes, if you get one from me to be component compatible, it will have one of Jeff's NeoBitz boards in it. And the board alone costs more than $100. And even the cheapest encoder on the market, the R2N which is great, costs $64 and also doesn't support component output.

The parts of a supergun alone are in the neighborhood of $200+. And it takes 5 or so hours to build.

You get what you pay for. If you want to spend $100, you get no encoder. You spend $300+ big shipping with MAS, you get a supergun and two sticks that may be all excellent or all garbage. You spend money on a supergun I make, it will work as advertised, I'll service for you as long as you have it, and you can build it to order.

Yep, Ely13 and I are both local to you, but I usually only make superguns to order since everyone wants something a slight bit different.

It seems like a converter from RGB>NTSC with output for RCA cables. Is relatively cheap but not sure if its what I'm looking for

Thanks.

Actually, from what info I can find out about this encoder, it will convert the RGB to NTSC. You will just have to adapt your scart to that circular RGB connector on the front. It might be better to take the inards of the encoder out, wire in your own connector for RGB+sync. Also, since most (all?) RGB > NTSC/PAL encoder chips output separate luma and chroma signals, I'm sure you could probably tap them off the chip to get s-video out.

If I didn't already have an encoder board, I'd snap one of these puppies up at that price. If you already have the other supergun, you might as well just buy an encoder (it'd be much cheaper than buying a new sg). I'm tempted to get one of these encoders anyway just to see what the quality is like, i got a cheap chinese encoder board on ebay and the composite (CVBS) output is shit. I am positive there is no luma trap and I wish I could figure out what encoder chip is on it so i'd have a pinout to work from so I could add a trap (the top of the chip has been dremeled...so stupid)

Good luck!

Thanks DT. WoW I've never thought of a procedure like that before. Thanks for bring this into light. I'm not so adept into electronics. I understand their jargon and definitions, but have little if no experience. But this should help other DIY'ers and if what you say it right, this should be a buy for them.
Would consider this, but I doubt my Supergun is going to be coming. Seller shipped it out month ago from Germany, but item still has yet to arrive. I'm gonna go ahead and try to claim a refund for it, while pursuing another SG. A custom built one, or MAS SN, which to me seems like a good buy. 2 high quality sticks, MAS SG for around $300.

Thanks everybody for your post. Helping me in my quest to play my damn MVS.(OMG still sitting there in all its glory, but NOOO where's the SG?? :conf: )

Make sure you read up on MAS before buying.....

- random quality
- pricey shipping (heavy bastards)
- no component video
- non-standard cables
- gigantic

Good decision. After talking to a lot of members here, I changed my original plan of getting a consolized MVS and Massystems sticks. I ended up ordering a custom supergun from D-Lite and I'm having custom sticks made. It's a more involved process but I'm a lot happier with the end result.

Well, I'd have the sticks coming but I can't figure out how to use Photoshop to resize/crop these images I'm going to have on top :(

To add onto D-Lite's post, I've read on other forums horrible customer service experiences with Mas (not everyone, but at least 40% of the people reported getting yelled at over the phone, screwed up orders, etc.). If you're shelling out that much money on a favorite hobby, I'd personally rather deal with someone who treats me decently.

Tou'che' :smirk: UmM I mean agreed. It would be more of a pleasure to deal with somebody who's involved with the NEO community. I'll drop D-Lite a line and see what can he offer. But hearing from so many ppl from the Neo community, I know I won't be dissapointed.

Ely13-Just curious but where are you getting your sticks made? From who?
This sounds like something I might be interested in doing if I go with a custom SG.

oh forgot to include, I'm actually getting it through via Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3945&item=6179401185&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

So there'll be no yelling, or cussing. Well I hope for the best :)

I hope you plan on shelling out that $60 for next day shipping or you won't be getting that in the timeline you're looking at.

Recieved my SG built by D-Lite. Luving it. Works better than I thought. He was kool about sacrificing time and alot of effort to make this in little time I had availible. Money well spent! :glee:
Sorry for the bump but considered this news instead of spam.

This is spam: D-Lite is Da Man :buttrock:

Works but unfortunately have some problems with the 4 slot I bought a while ago.
I'll make another thread explaining.
