well, I have a coin door that I need to take a panel off of. I am not sure exactly how it is attached......but I need to get it off. So, anyone know how I can get this thing off without bending the crap out of it?

Looks like a tack weld. Those are a pain in the ass to remove. If you have a sharp cold chisel, that can smartly deal with the welds. Removing it without bending the metal its welded to will take some finess.

I don't care about not bending the door...I just don't want to mess up the piece I am taking off.....because I am going to put it back on another door I am going to make or have made.

I just wanted to get it off in the best shape possible.

time for some metal work :)

If anyone else has an idea on removing this....please chime in!

Other than cold chisel, you'd need to heat the weld to remove it. You could cut the protruding part off and grind what is left smooth is the only other option I can think of.

edit: haha i should read posts more thoroughly. Heating is about the only way you'd get the part removed in one usable piece.

I'd like to see you remove weld with a soldering iron! If I were you I'd take the angle grinder to it if you don't care about wrecking the door. Alternatively make a new one, it'd probably be less trouble. It only looks like a piece of metal bend to the right shape with a few holes drilled in it.

You would need a welding torch. Just heat up the welds and knock the door off with a hammer.

lol, I figured the iron wouldn't work. The reason I am not looking to make that myself is, the hardest part of this project is going to be bending metal. I don't have tools for that. I may have to go get the actual door part made and maybe I can get them to put this part on the door part. I will be drilling all holes myself and figuring out how to get the hinges on there.

It shouldn't be too bad. I just wish I had the tools to bend/cut the sheet metal myself. I have worked with metal before, but nothing like this.

Bloody hell, I'm an idiot. :kekeke:

Just drill out the tack welds if you're going to bolt it to a new door.

Yeah that'd do it. Either drill or grind the tack weld where it's attached to the door. If you're careful you'll be able to do it without putting holes in the panel

I'd use a sturdy workbench with a good edge to it and a heavy hammer! Always seems to work for me.

Why don't you try cutting the old door... you would have an extra layer of metal on the tabs of the panel, but I don't think that would be that big of a deal.

Drill out the parts where you see the circles..It looks to have 3 on one side...That looks to be the tack weld spots

Drill one and try to lift with a screw driver...You really need a vise to do any metal work..
.Damn I need to get my butt out there someday bro.....I could of helped to get that part off,and with the right tools make the doors..

If you get a coin door you may not need to actually save that part ..
(if you didn't want to)as you could probably make something else up to take up the space that, that holds the Coin mechanism out/in far enough.(Think:..the bartop stick..)..

I'd say after you get that off it may need to be bolted to the new coin door so the holes you will drill will be used again.
If so,I'll send you some nice bolts for that..

It's just a weird size...7 inches wide and 7 3/4 tall, so I don't think I will find another. I am going to drill them out tomarrow

thanks!

pop rivet guns aren't expensive (I can get one from a tool place near me {harbor freight tools} for around $12). Just go and get one... if nothing else, you'll have another tool in your collection :mr_t:

cool, how do they work? I have done riveting by hand with a hammer etc...but not with a gun....drill a hole in both things, line them up...put it on something flat and hard, and shoot it in there?

Sorry if it sounds stupid...but I just want to make sure it's something I can do...

I think that's about right... only... you'd need to buy rivets ( they look like nails with an extra head) I'm not 100% on how to do it because I have personally never had to use one enough to buy one... I think I just used one in my middle school shop class
